About the Role
As a Fire Services Designer, you help bring our Australian-based partner's values into every project by creating and compiling precise, compliant fire services designs and documentation. In this role, you will ensure all deliverables are accurate, complete, and aligned with project schedules, company policies, and procedures. Your work will include preparing the technical information and calculations that support in successfully completing projects, while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.

What you'll be working on:
Safety
- Actively promote and adhere to all company OHS policies and procedures, always ensuring a safe workplace for yourself and your colleagues.
- Reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards in the workplace to your supervisor/ manager.
Environment
- Ensure all environmental compliance requirements are met, and all Environmental Policies and procedures are always adhered to. Participate in waste reduction and energy and water use efficiency programs.
Quality Assurance
- Comply and support company Quality Management systems, processes and procedures and provide feedback. Participate in audits, both internal and external as required.
Designing
- Have a complete understanding of all company procedures and the ability to compile submissions that are accurate, informed and complete.
- Understand the structure and meaning of the project's Design Intent documents including but not limited to Specification Documentation and Design process.
- Produce shop/design drawings as directed by the Project Manager, Team Lead or Design Manager in accordance with the National Construction Code of Australia, all relevant Australian standards and any Fire Specification and Engineering documentation.
- Participate in and contribute to the full design process, including but not limited to:
- Perform a complete read-in Conduct a brief back to the Project Manager, Team Lead or Design Manager
- Prepare the initial design drawings
- Prepare client RFIs
- Prepare bill of materials
- Provide daily progress updates to the Team Lead or Design Manager
- Prepare Design/Drawing Registers
- Prepare technical clarifications
- Prepare drawings submission deliverables
- Conduct final design review with Team Lead or Design Manager
- Prepare & Produce fabrication sheets for pipe fabrication
- Complete all design deliverables, including final as-built documentation.
- Ensure that all submission deadlines and commitments are met - Participate in the development and implementation of proposal strategies with any of the Project Manager, Team Lead or Design Manager and ensure this is included in the design submission.
Design Documentation Control
- Monitor project correspondences, databases and processes and ensure project timeline are on track and milestones achieved. Seek approval for all proposed changes from the Project Manager, Team Lead or Design Manager
- Read and understand responses to RFIs with consultation with the Project Manager, Team Lead or
- Design Manager and incorporate any required changes in the design/drawing update.
- Ensure that work produced is consistent with our proposal and with the client's criteria.
- Ensure that construction shop drawings are consistent with our design intent and with the client's criteria.
- Continue to expand the company's client base and promote healthy relationships with them.
Ongoing Project Maintenance
- Participate in the ongoing project design requirements including but not limited to plans, specifications, schedule and any other drawing/model/documents as required.
- Assist with better efficiency during construction for the project team
- Assist with value engineering solutions where we present alternative design where possible and appropriate.
- Establish a relationship with the Project Delivery team during the construction period to ensure clarity.
What we're looking for:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in the Fire Services industry, including design and documentation of fire protection systems.
- Experience within commercial, industrial, mining, resources, or construction projects is preferred but not essential.
- Educational background in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) relevant to fire services design.
- Demonstrated experience in applying Guidelines, statutory, Regulatory and Australian Standards (i.e. AS2419, AS 2118, AS1670 & NCC) in live project environments is strongly preferred.
- Excellent knowledge and experience with Autodesk Revit to produce BIM models up to LOD 500.Proficient in Autodesk suite and Microsoft Office packages.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of fire sprinkler, hydrant, hose reel, smoke detector, and EWIS system design.
- Willingness to work as directed and follow project requirements.
- Strong English communication skills at all levels.
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic, with leadership experience or aspirations.
- High levels of computer literacy, particularly with Autodesk products and Hydraulic Calculation Software.
- Familiarity with Aconex, Procore, or other database/document management software.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure Australian environment
