About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established and nationally recognized civil litigation defense firm, is actively seeking a Law Enforcement Liability Associate to join its growing governmental entity litigation team.

This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact public entity defense cases, including law enforcement liability matters, dangerous condition claims, and complex civil litigation involving governmental agencies.

Associates in this group collaborate closely with experienced trial attorneys and gain exposure to all phases of litigation — from case strategy and discovery through trial preparation and courtroom advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle civil litigation matters involving law enforcement liability and public entity defense
• Manage cases through all stages of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation
• Conduct and defend depositions
• Draft and argue motions and legal briefs
• Evaluate claims and develop defense litigation strategies
• Manage and respond to written discovery
• Maintain regular and strategic communication with clients throughout litigation
• Ensure timely reporting and compliance with client case management requirements
• Collaborate closely with senior litigators and trial attorneys on complex matters

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.)
• Active California State Bar membership in good standing
• 2–5+ years of civil litigation experience (flexible range considered)
• Defense-side litigation experience required (plaintiff-only backgrounds not considered)
• Experience with:
  • Depositions
  • Motion practice
  • Discovery management
  • Courtroom advocacy
• Strong written and verbal advocacy skills
• Ability to manage deadlines and multiple litigation matters

Nice to Have

• Experience defending law enforcement officers or public entities
• Criminal defense experience combined with civil litigation
• Prior law enforcement or military background
• Experience with government clients
