About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established and growing organization in the construction materials and contracting industry, is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support its California operations.
This is a high-impact, hands-on role supporting a unionized workforce in a fast-paced, operational environment. You will play a key role in driving employee engagement, ensuring compliance with California employment law, and supporting business expansion initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
HR Operations & Employee Relations

Support day-to-day HR functions including employee files, reviews, surveys, and compensation administration

Provide guidance to employees and supervisors on policies, benefits, and employee relations matters

Investigate workplace concerns while maintaining strict confidentiality
California Compliance & Labor Relations

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
-
Support reporting requirements (EEO-1, VETS, and related filings)

Partner with leadership in a unionized environment, supporting collective bargaining agreement administration
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

Manage full-cycle recruiting including postings, interviews, screenings, onboarding, and exit interviews

Support workforce planning and organizational development initiatives
HR Systems & Process Improvement

Utilize HRIS and ERP systems to maintain data accuracy

Contribute to HR process improvements and operational efficiency

Assist with acquisition integration and expansion efforts
Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
-
Associate degree or equivalent HR experience

5+ years of Human Resources experience

Experience within construction or construction materials environments

Strong knowledge of California employment laws and compliance regulations

Experience supporting unionized workforces and collective bargaining agreements

Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR systems
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree in HR, Business, or related field

Bilingual English/Spanish

Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or California-specific certification)

Experience with HRIS/ERP systems

Experience supporting acquisitions or organizational growth initiatives
