HVAC Designer (Commercial / Industrial / Residential / MEP Systems)

Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior HVAC Designer to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of efficient, high-performance HVAC systems across commercial, industrial, residential, healthcare, hospitality, and mixed-use developments. This role is responsible for developing mechanical system designs, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and delivering reliable HVAC solutions that meet project, operational, and energy-efficiency requirements.

The Senior HVAC Designer serves as a technical lead, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior designers, and ensuring successful project execution from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.


Key Responsibilities:

HVAC System Design & Technical Leadership

  • Design, develop, and maintain HVAC systems for commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional projects

  • Lead HVAC system planning, equipment selection, and mechanical layout development

  • Prepare detailed HVAC drawings including ducting, piping, ventilation, and equipment schedules

  • Ensure designs comply with project specifications, local codes, ASHRAE standards, and energy regulations

  • Review HVAC drawings and calculations to maintain engineering accuracy and design quality

  • Mentor junior HVAC designers and provide technical guidance and design support

Mechanical System Design & Optimization

  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software

  • Design chilled water systems, VRF/VRV systems, DX systems, ventilation systems, and exhaust systems

  • Optimize HVAC system efficiency, airflow distribution, and energy consumption

  • Identify design conflicts, system inefficiencies, and coordination issues

  • Ensure maintainability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of HVAC systems

  • Support sustainable and energy-efficient building design initiatives

BIM Modeling & Multidisciplinary Coordination

  • Develop and coordinate 2D and 3D HVAC models using AutoCAD and Revit MEP

  • Coordinate with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines

  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings and clash detection processes

  • Resolve mechanical coordination issues during design and construction phases

  • Ensure accurate integration of HVAC systems within overall building infrastructure

Equipment Selection & Technical Documentation

  • Select HVAC equipment including chillers, AHUs, FCUs, cooling towers, pumps, fans, and ventilation units

  • Prepare technical specifications, BOQs, equipment schedules, and design reports

  • Review contractor shop drawings, material submittals, and technical proposals

  • Assist in tender documentation and engineering cost estimates

  • Maintain accurate project documentation, design calculations, and revision records

Site Support & Quality Assurance

  • Conduct site inspections, surveys, and field verification when required

  • Provide technical support during construction, testing, and commissioning activities

  • Ensure installations comply with approved drawings and project standards

  • Identify and resolve HVAC-related site issues and technical challenges

  • Support QA/QC processes and engineering compliance reviews

Collaboration & Project Delivery

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Consultants, Contractors, and Clients

  • Participate in project planning, coordination meetings, and technical reviews

  • Translate client and operational requirements into practical HVAC solutions

  • Communicate project progress, technical concerns, and risks to stakeholders

  • Support timely project delivery while maintaining engineering quality standards

Continuous Improvement & Industry Standards

  • Stay updated with HVAC technologies, energy codes, and industry best practices

  • Contribute to process improvements, design standards, and engineering workflows

  • Promote innovation in HVAC design, BIM implementation, and sustainable engineering

  • Support knowledge sharing and technical development across engineering teams


Requirements:

  • 5–10+ years of experience in HVAC design and mechanical system engineering

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC design principles, psychrometrics, and airflow systems

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and BIM coordination tools

  • Experience with HVAC load calculation software such as HAP or TRACE 3D Plus

  • Solid understanding of ASHRAE standards, SMACNA guidelines, and local building codes

  • Experience designing chilled water systems, VRF systems, ventilation, and exhaust systems

  • Strong understanding of mechanical coordination and construction documentation

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to design scalable, energy-efficient, and maintainable HVAC systems


Preferred (Nice-to-Have):

  • Professional Mechanical Engineer license or equivalent certification

  • Experience with energy modeling and green building standards

  • Familiarity with LEED, sustainability practices, and energy optimization

  • Experience with Navisworks and clash detection workflows

  • Knowledge of building automation systems (BMS/BAS)

  • Experience in healthcare, data center, hospitality, or high-rise projects

  • Familiarity with CFD analysis and advanced airflow simulation

  • Experience working in Agile or fast-paced project delivery environments
