Mechanical Engineer (Building Services / Industrial / Energy Systems)
Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, implementation, and optimization of mechanical systems across commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, and institutional projects. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient, safe, and code-compliant mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection interfaces, and building utilities.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer serves as a technical leader, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, guiding junior engineers, and ensuring successful delivery of mechanical engineering solutions from concept design through construction and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design & Technical Leadership
Lead the design and development of mechanical systems for building and infrastructure projects
Perform detailed engineering calculations for HVAC loads, piping systems, fluid flow, and equipment sizing
Review and approve mechanical drawings, schematics, and design documentation
Ensure compliance with local codes, international standards, and project specifications
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level mechanical engineers
Support value engineering and system optimization to improve cost and efficiency
HVAC, Plumbing & Building Systems Engineering
Design HVAC systems including chilled water, VRF/VRV, DX systems, ventilation, and exhaust systems
Design plumbing systems including water supply, drainage, stormwater, and sanitary systems
Coordinate fire protection system interfaces with relevant disciplines
Select mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, pumps, AHUs, FCUs, and piping networks
Ensure efficient system integration for comfort, safety, and operational reliability
Analysis, Optimization & Performance Engineering
Conduct energy efficiency analysis and system performance optimization
Identify and resolve design inefficiencies and technical bottlenecks
Ensure thermal comfort, indoor air quality, and system reliability targets are met
Support commissioning activities and system testing validation
Evaluate lifecycle costs and propose sustainable engineering solutions
BIM Coordination & Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Develop and coordinate mechanical models using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and BIM tools
Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and civil disciplines
Participate in BIM coordination meetings and clash detection processes
Resolve spatial and technical conflicts during design and construction stages
Ensure accurate integration of mechanical systems into overall building design
Construction Support & Site Supervision
Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning
Review shop drawings, material submittals, and contractor proposals
Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved designs and standards
Resolve field issues and provide engineering solutions during construction
Support project handover and as-built documentation preparation
Documentation & Project Delivery
Prepare technical reports, mechanical design calculations, specifications, and BOQs
Maintain accurate engineering documentation, revisions, and project records
Support tender documentation and technical bid evaluations
Contribute to engineering standards, guidelines, and best practices
Ensure timely delivery of mechanical design outputs aligned with project schedules
Requirements:
5–10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design and building services
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems design principles
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and mechanical engineering tools
Experience with HVAC load calculation software (HAP, TRACE 3D Plus, or equivalent)
Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
Familiarity with ASHRAE, SMACNA, and relevant mechanical codes and standards
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical coordination skills
Preferred (Nice-to-Have):
Licensed Mechanical Engineer (or equivalent certification depending on region)
Experience in energy modeling and sustainable building design (LEED, green building standards)
Familiarity with BIM coordination tools such as Navisworks
Experience in healthcare, data centers, high-rise, or industrial projects
Knowledge of building automation systems (BMS/BAS)
Exposure to commissioning and testing & balancing (T&B) processes
Experience working in consultancy or design-build environments
Strong background in energy-efficient and net-zero building strategies
