Project Controls Engineer (Construction / Engineering / Infrastructure / EPC Projects)

Overview:
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and analytical Project Controls Engineer to support the planning, scheduling, cost control, and performance monitoring of engineering, construction, infrastructure, and EPC projects. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with project objectives and contractual requirements.

The Project Controls Engineer plays a critical role in project execution by managing schedules, tracking costs, analyzing project performance, identifying risks, and supporting data-driven decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Scheduling
Develop, maintain, and update project schedules and work breakdown structures (WBS)
Monitor project timelines, milestones, and deliverables
Coordinate schedule development with engineering, procurement, and construction teams
Perform schedule analysis, critical path analysis, and progress tracking
Identify schedule risks, delays, and recovery opportunities

Cost Control & Budget Management
Monitor project costs, expenditures, and budget performance
Prepare cost forecasts, cash flow reports, and variance analyses
Track commitments, invoices, and project financial performance
Support budget preparation and cost estimation activities
Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend corrective actions

Progress Monitoring & Performance Reporting
Track project progress against baseline schedules and budgets
Develop project dashboards, KPIs, and performance reports
Analyze project trends and provide recommendations to management
Support earned value management (EVM) analysis and reporting
Communicate project status, risks, and forecast updates to stakeholders

Risk Management & Change Control
Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks
Support project change management and variation tracking processes
Evaluate schedule and cost impacts of project changes
Maintain risk registers and issue logs
Participate in project review meetings and risk assessments

Documentation & Project Controls Systems
Maintain project controls documentation, records, and reporting systems
Ensure data accuracy across scheduling and cost management tools
Develop and maintain project reporting templates and procedures
Support implementation of project controls standards and best practices
Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and company requirements

Cross-Functional Coordination
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement, and construction teams
Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders as required
Support project planning and execution activities across multiple disciplines
Assist management with project forecasting and strategic planning
Facilitate communication between project teams and leadership

Continuous Improvement & Compliance
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within project controls processes
Support lessons learned and project closeout activities
Stay updated on project controls methodologies, tools, and industry standards
Promote operational efficiency, quality, and compliance across projects
Assist in training and mentoring junior project controls personnel

Requirements:
3–8+ years of experience in project controls, planning, scheduling, or cost control
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field
Strong knowledge of project scheduling and cost management principles
Experience with project planning and scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.)
Understanding of earned value management (EVM) and project performance metrics
Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project reporting tools
Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination abilities

Preferred (Nice-to-Have):
Experience in construction, infrastructure, oil & gas, utilities, or EPC projects
Knowledge of project budgeting, forecasting, and procurement processes
Familiarity with SAP, Oracle, or ERP project systems
Understanding of risk management and contract administration
Experience with Power BI or data visualization/reporting tools
Project Management Professional (PMP) or related certification
Knowledge of project lifecycle management methodologies
Experience working in large-scale or multi-disciplinary projects
