About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Insurance Accountant to join our finance team in Porto. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work within an international insurance environment, contributing to the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of financial reporting and accounting operations.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical accounting expertise, a solid understanding of insurance accounting principles, and experience working with IFRS standards, particularly IFRS 17 and IFRS 9.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee insurance accounting activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, accounting records, and reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS standards, with a particular focus on IFRS 17 and IFRS 9.
• Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
• Monitor and maintain the integrity of general ledger accounts and accounting processes.
• Support financial reporting requirements for internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
• Collaborate with auditors during internal and external audit processes.
• Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve accounting procedures and controls.
• Contribute to accounting transformation and process improvement initiatives.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Risk, Actuarial, and Operations departments.
• Support the implementation and optimization of accounting systems and reporting tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Audit, or a related field.
• Approximately 6–10 years of professional experience in an equivalent accounting role, preferably within the insurance sector.
• Fluent English (C1 level mandatory), both written and spoken.
• Fluency in French is considered a strong asset.
• Strong knowledge of insurance accounting principles and practices.
• Previous experience working with IFRS standards, ideally IFRS 17 and IFRS 9.
• Experience with accounting and ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, CODA, or similar platforms.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within international teams.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
