We seek an exceptional Mechanical Engineering Lead to direct the design, development, and manufacturing of our cutting-edge free-space optical communication systems. You will guide a skilled team, collaborating with optical, electrical, software, and systems experts to deliver high-performance hardware from concept to production. Drive detailed mechanical design and scalable manufacturing processes, fostering technical growth within your team.
Your Impact:
Lead the design and development of complex opto-mechanical systems for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Mentor a team of mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance and career development.
Own design reviews, technical roadmapping, and resource planning for mechanical and manufacturing.
Drive DFM/DFA initiatives for scalable production.
Oversee CAD modeling, tolerance analysis, documentation, BOMs, and change processes.
Partner with supply chain and vendors for quality and build consistency.
Develop assembly fixtures, test setups, and production procedures.
Support environmental testing, qualification, and deployment.
What You Bring:
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
8+ years of mechanical design and manufacturing experience (aerospace, defense, high-precision preferred).
Experience managing/mentoring engineers and leading cross-functional projects.
Expertise in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo), GD&T, tolerance analysis, and mechanical simulation.
Strong understanding of opto-mechanical principles, thermal management, and structural dynamics.
Proven ability to take products from concept to production.
Familiarity with high-precision manufacturing, vendor sourcing, and quality assurance.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Bonus Points:
Experience with optical communication systems, pointing/tracking, or space-rated hardware.
Knowledge of MIL-STD or environmental qualification testing.
Experience with ERP/MRP and PLM systems.
Active or eligible for a U.S. Government security clearance.
