About the Role

Were partnering with a rapidly scaling fintech focused on cross-border payments and remittances, enabling users across Latin America to operate directly through WhatsApp. The product is growing fast and entering a new stage, with a strong focus on identity, onboarding, and account management at scale.

Were looking for a Senior Backend Developer with deep hands-on experience in Python and FastAPI, someone highly execution-oriented who enjoys solving concrete problems, making technical decisions, and owning backend services end to end.

This is a very practical role: youll be designing, building, iterating, and improving backend systems that handle sensitive data, high volumes, and real-world complexity.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Design, implement, and evolve REST APIs using Python and FastAPI, with a strong focus on clarity, performance, and security.

  • Build backend services that manage identity data such as users, emails, phone numbers, beneficiaries, and onboarding flows.

  • Design and work hands-on with PostgreSQL, ensuring solid schemas, data integrity, and efficient queries.

  • Integrate with third-party services related to authentication, identity verification, and communications (email/SMS).

  • Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to define API contracts and data models.

  • Contribute to architectural decisions with a pragmatic, problem-solving mindset.

  • Deploy and operate services on GCP, using tools like Cloud Run, CloudSQL, IAM/Service Accounts, Secret Manager, and Pub/Sub.

  • Implement logging, monitoring, and auditing to ensure traceability and reliability.

  • Apply best practices for handling PII and sensitive financial data.

What You Bring

  • Strong, hands-on experience building production systems with Python and FastAPI.

  • Solid background designing and working with PostgreSQL (schema design, migrations, performance).

  • Experience building APIs that handle sensitive data in secure, scalable environments.

  • Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, CloudSQL, IAM, Secret Manager, Pub/Sub).

  • Good understanding of authentication and authorization mechanisms (JWT, OAuth2, OpenID Connect).

  • Experience working with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment workflows.

  • Comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership, and driving solutions forward.

  • Clear communication skills in English within a fully remote setup.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with React.js from a backend integration perspective (API design, data contracts).

  • Exposure to NestJS or Node.js-based backends.

  • Experience in fintech, payments, remittances, or high-volume transactional systems.

  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging systems.

  • Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
