Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced IMS Database Management Specialist to provide managed services for our IBM Information Management System (IMS) database environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in IMS DB, hierarchical database structures, and transaction processing to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security of our mission-critical IMS systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain IBM IMS Database Manager (IMS DB) environments

  • Monitor database performance and implement optimization strategies

  • Configure and administer hierarchical database structures

  • Perform routine maintenance, backups, and recovery procedures

  • Implement security measures and access controls for IMS databases

  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues

  • Support database migrations and upgrades

  • Develop and maintain documentation for IMS database operations

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business requirements

  • Provide 24/7 monitoring and support for critical database systems

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience with IBM IMS Database Manager (IMS DB)

  • Knowledge of hierarchical database structures and management

  • Experience with z/OS operating system and mainframe environments

  • Understanding of IMS transaction processing concepts

  • Familiarity with IMS database types (Full Function, Fast Path, HALDB)

  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization

  • Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures for IMS databases

  • Understanding of security best practices for database management

  • Experience with managed services or infrastructure management services
