Role Overview
We are looking for a seasoned Senior Drools Engineer to support the consolidation and optimization of a Business Rule Service integral to the "Compass Corporate" environment. This service supports multiple systems via Apache Kafka messaging and is built using Drools (KIE 7.73.0) running within a Spring Boot microservice architecture. The engineer will be responsible for maintaining and evolving the rule service, supporting CI/CD pipelines, integrating with enterprise systems, and ensuring platform performance, scalability, and security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and enhance the Business Rule service across Compass Corporate environments

  • Define and apply technical best practices for writing real-time business rules

  • Collaborate with business developers to implement and test business logic

  • Provide support for CI/CD, tuning, and configuration of the rule engine

  • Monitor performance, availability, and proactively resolve platform issues

  • Lead the migration of the Business Rule service to AWS EKS with zero business impact

  • Define container lifecycle processes in Kubernetes (TKGI, Tanzu, or EKS)

  • Configure monitoring dashboards and alert policies for operational support

  • Maintain detailed system documentation and deliver user training when needed

  • Optimize automation and scripting to improve operational efficiency

  • Secure the Business Rule service environment by applying compliance and security practices

  • Apply distributed architecture and CEP (Complex Event Processing) principles for scalable integration

Technical Requirements

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Drools (KIE): rules authoring, decision tables, rule flows

  • Strong Java development skills and integration of Drools in Spring Boot environments

  • CI/CD experience: GitLab CI, Jenkins, automated pipelines for rule deployment

  • Proven experience with KIE Workbench and Execution Server deployment and operations

  • Proficient in rule versioning, rollback strategies, and collaboration with stakeholders

  • Solid knowledge of Kafka, containerization (Docker) and Kubernetes orchestration

  • Experience with DevOps tools, Git-based version control, scripting (Linux, Shell)

  • Proficiency in REST/SOAP API integrations

  • Expertise in performance tuning, high availability, and rule execution optimization

  • Strong grasp of monitoring and alerting tools, logging frameworks, and lifecycle management in containerized environments

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with security protocols and best practices in the Drools ecosystem

  • Experience supporting enterprise applications (ERP, CRM) with rules integration

  • Ability to deliver training and documentation for rule service usage and configuration

  • Experience in clustering and large-scale CEP (Complex Event Processing) implementations

Qualifications

  • Masters degree (EQF Level 8 or equivalent 5 years of higher education) in Computer Science or related technical field

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in business rule engineering and Drools platform management

  • Demonstrated expertise in enterprise-grade integration projects involving rule-based systems
