Job Description:
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and visionary Product Portfolio Lead Architect Compute to define and drive the architecture of compute services within the Infrastructure Product Line of the EDP Platform. This includes virtual compute environments, OS image lifecycle management, and container orchestration solutions deployed across hybrid cloud environments.
This is a strategic role at the intersection of technology and infrastructure, with a direct impact on the evolution of platform services used by software product teams across the energy sector. You will lead major initiatives, including the transition from VMware to KVM, the implementation of OS image lifecycle architecture, and ensure alignment with modern compute, container, and infrastructure standards.
️ Key Responsibilities
Architecture Ownership & Design

Define and maintain architecture for compute stack components:
Virtual compute platforms (vCenter, hypervisors)
OS image lifecycle management
Container orchestration (e.g., Rancher, Kubernetes) -
Lead end-to-end architectural design from concept to implementation.

Ensure scalability, security, observability, and maintainability across all designs.
Strategic Initiatives

Design and implement an OS image lifecycle management architecture.

Lead strategic transition from VMware to KVM, ensuring performance, compatibility, and operational continuity.

Support roadmap development, identifying architectural risks and opportunities.
Collaboration & Alignment
-
Work closely with product management, delivery teams, and other architects to align technical direction with business goals.

Represent compute architecture in cross-functional and governance forums.

Escalate risks and contribute to architectural consistency across the platform.
Technical Oversight & Mentorship

Guide engineering teams through architectural decisions, security practices, and deployment standards.

Conduct regular health reviews of compute services and recommend technical improvements.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation

Contribute to the development of internal architectural standards and best practices.

Stay current with trends in virtualization, containers, cloud-native infrastructure, and observability.

Promote innovation while balancing legacy migration and platform stability.
Required Qualifications
Education
-
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.

Preferred: TOGAF or Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Professional Experience
-
7-10 years in software/platform architecture, IT infrastructure, or compute services.

Proven ownership of end-to-end architecture in enterprise-scale, distributed systems.

Strong experience in architectural transitions (e.g., hypervisor/platform migrations).
Technical Expertise

Deep knowledge of:

Virtualization: VMware, KVM, hypervisor architecture

Compute platforms, container orchestration (Rancher, Kubernetes)

OS lifecycle & image management on Linux

Networking: VXLAN, VLAN, VRF, BGP, DNS, DHCP, IPAM

Infrastructure: Dell/HPE systems, DCIM tools, CMDB

Authentication/authorization: IAM, OAuth, OIDC

Observability frameworks: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger

REST APIs, data modeling (relational, document, graph)

Artifact signing and workload identity: Sigstore, Cosign, SPIFFE/SPIRE

Fluent English (minimum C1) written and verbal communication
Preferred Certifications

TOGAF, AWS/Azure/GCP Architect certifications

Duration of the Engagement: At least 6 months, with possibility of extension based on performance
Working method: Can be fully remote, but some travel to customer site in Frankfurt / Berlin may be required (upto 50%)
Travel Requirements: Planned is 50% in the beginning, but it can be negotiated.
Language skills: Fluent English in speech and writing (at least C1).
