GIS Cloud Engineer

Position: GIS Cloud Engineer (B2B / Freelancer Contract)
Location: Remote open to candidates based in the European Union
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced GIS Cloud Engineer to join our team of innovators driving high-performance, scalable, and secure geospatial solutions in the cloud. The role involves modernizing GIS infrastructures, automating cloud workflows, and integrating geospatial data with advanced technologies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability, cost efficiency, and security across a cloud-native GIS ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities

Migrate and automate the PSGEO solution, supporting Level 3 (L3) operations and integrating geospatial data layers.

Configure secure access to GIS subscriptions through Azure Functions and app services.

Migrate legacy Python scripts to Golang and streamline cloud pipelines for performance and efficiency.

Implement real-time and batch processing of GEO APIs using Kafka and REST.

Execute vendor-driven changes, performance tuning, and vector processing optimizations.

Build custom monitoring solutions using Dynatrace and ensure proactive system health management.

Collaborate on proof-of-concept initiatives to develop and test innovative GIS cloud solutions.

Contribute to continuous improvement and automation initiatives across cloud and geospatial workflows.
Required Skills & Experience

Bachelors degree in Informatics, Computer Science, or a related field.

Minimum 10 years of professional experience in a similar engineering role.

Proven experience with Microsoft Azure, including resource management, microservices, and cost optimization.

Hands-on expertise in cloud automation and operational workflow development.

Strong understanding of Identity and Access Management (IAM), including secure access via app services and service principals.

Experience in developing and integrating APIs for geospatial platforms such as HERE and Esri.

Proficiency in implementing Kafka for real-time and batch data streaming.

Solid understanding of GIS principles, spatial analysis, and geospatial data models.

Practical experience with geocoding, geoenrichment, and executing spatial queries at scale.

Advanced proficiency in Golang for cloud-native development.

Working knowledge of Python for migration and legacy support tasks.

Familiarity with observability tools such as Dynatrace for monitoring and performance optimization.

Proven ability to manage incidents and provide effective Level 3 (L3) technical support.

Understanding of secure, scalable cloud architecture design and data security compliance.

Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and PostgreSQL is considered a plus.

Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
