Areas of Experience Preferred:
- Claims Specialist with settlement experience involving third-party insurers
- End-to-end Claims Specialist (experience in Recovery is preferred)
- Insurance Broker Firm
Position Overview
The Claims Specialist is responsible for processing insurance claims accurately and efficiently while mitigating claims costs in accordance with policy guidelines, delegated authorities, and applicable industry laws and regulations.
This is a customer-facing role that upholds the companys Soft Landings philosophy, ensuring a high level of service from initial lodgement through to claim closure.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Handle inbound and outbound calls from existing customers and third parties.

Provide reliable and accurate information to customers and stakeholders in a timely manner.

Apply the Policy Disclosure Statement (PDS) and underwriting guidelines to determine claim coverage.

Identify and report any potentially fraudulent activity.

Liaise with third-party suppliers and service providers.

Obtain required documentation from customers to facilitate proper claims handling in line with organisational policies and procedures.

Assess, accept, or decline claims in accordance with underwriting guidelines and managerial direction.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Report incidents, breaches, or complaints promptly and in accordance with relevant procedures.

Negotiate claims costs and manage discussions regarding claim quantum.

Perform other duties within the scope of skills, competence, training, and experience as directed by the Manager.
Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum of 5–10 years of relevant experience or equivalent industry exposure.

Strong understanding of the role and importance of insurance.

Intermediate computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.

Prior customer service experience.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Willing and able to work onsite on the first 30 days.
Preferred Skills and Experience

Previous experience handling insurance claims or working within a financial services institution.

Strong negotiation, persuasion, and investigative skills when dealing with customers and service providers.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport.

Skilled in asking probing questions and gathering detailed information to support effective claims handling.
