Technical Asset Manager
About the job Technical Asset Manager
We are looking an Asset Manager to oversee the performance, compliance, and client management of a diverse portfolio of energy assets. In this role, you will act as the key liaison between clients, internal teams, and O&M contractors—ensuring optimal asset performance, regulatory compliance, and strong stakeholder relationships. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering operational excellence and long-term value.
1. Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for asset owners and investors across your portfolio, building strong and long-term relationships at both owner and sponsor levels.
- Lead structured monthly client meetings, presenting asset performance summaries, issue updates, maintenance plans, and compliance status with clarity and confidence.
- Proactively communicate risks, issues, and opportunities to ensure transparency and position the company as a strategic partner.
- Manage client expectations during project transitions, major maintenance activities, outage periods, and regulatory changes.
- Identify opportunities to expand service scope within existing client relationships and collaborate with the commercial team to formalize additional engagements.
2. Technical Asset Management & Issue Resolution
- Own the technical performance outcomes for each asset in your portfolio — receiving performance insights and issue identification from QEA's Data Analytics team and taking full accountability for driving resolution through the O&M contractor.
- Review and act on performance reports, underperformance alerts, and equipment health findings — translating technical analysis into clear contractor work scopes, corrective actions, and escalation decisions.
- Review and approve O&M work orders, corrective maintenance reports, and equipment health assessments — applying sound engineering judgement to prioritise actions by risk, downtime impact, and contractual obligation.
- Manage BESS-specific technical considerations including state of charge management, cycle optimisation, degradation tracking, and BMS alarm response — coordinating O&M contractor actions to maintain availability and performance.
- Optimise the scheduling of planned maintenance and unplanned outage windows across your portfolio to minimise total generation downtime — coordinating timing with O&M contractors and QEA's control room to reduce energy loss and manage network obligations effectively.
- Track all open technical issues and corrective actions in Monday.com, ensuring tasks are assigned, progressed, and closed out within agreed timeframes.
- Maintain and review asset-level Asset Management Plans (AMPs), maintenance strategies, and capital expenditure forecasts in collaboration with the Data Analytics and Engineering teams.
3. NEM / AEMO Compliance & Regulatory Obligations
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of each asset's NEM registration, performance standards, and compliance obligations under the National Electricity Rules (NER) and Generator Performance Standards (GPS).
- Monitor and manage AEMO compliance obligations including market notifications, MSATS data submissions, and metering accuracy requirements across your portfolio.
- Coordinate with QEA's control room on outage planning and scheduling — focusing on minimising downtime and optimising outage windows rather than managing dispatch directly.
- Track and manage regulatory reporting obligations including performance standards compliance, mandatory reporting to AEMO and AER, and licence condition monitoring.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NEM rule changes and AEMO policy developments, briefing clients and internal teams on operational implications for managed assets as required.
4. O&M Contractor Management
- Manage relationships with O&M contractors, including performance reviews, KPI scorecards, and holding contractors accountable to contractual scope and quality standards.
- Review and approve maintenance plans aligned with OEM standards and asset management best practices.
- Manage contractor HSEQ compliance, including site induction requirements, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), permit-to-work processes, and incident reporting obligations.
- Assess and approve variation requests, escalating material scope or cost changes to the Head of Asset Management and the relevant client where required.
- Contribute to periodic contractor performance reviews and panel assessments, supporting QEA's procurement governance framework.
5. Reporting, Systems & Documentation
- Maintain Monday.com as the central platform for tracking all asset management activities, ensuring accuracy and timely updates.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive monthly client reports covering performance, issues, compliance, and maintenance outlook.
- Maintain detailed asset documentation, including maintenance records, compliance logs, and incident reports.
- Contribute to internal reporting, including KPI dashboards and performance summaries for leadership review.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy, or a related field
- Strong experience in asset management, preferably in energy or infrastructure
- Knowledge of NEM, AEMO, and regulatory frameworks (preferred)
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Experience using asset management or workflow tools (e.g., Monday.com)
