About the job Safety Specialist
The Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs and policies to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position works collaboratively with all levels of staff to promote a culture of safety, reduce workplace risks, and respond to safety incidents. The Safety Specialist also serves as the primary resource for safety training, inspections, and incident investigations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures.
Provide safety training and education to employees, contractors, and management on topics such as hazard communication, emergency procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), and ergonomics.
Maintain records of safety-related incidents, training sessions, and safety compliance documentation.
Monitor and ensure compliance with safety laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Coordinate emergency response drills and procedures, including evacuation plans and first aid/CPR training.
Review and update safety policies and procedures in response to regulatory changes or identified risks.
Participate in safety committees and represent the company in interactions with regulatory agencies and auditors.
Support the development and implementation of safety initiatives to continually improve the company's safety culture.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
2+ years of experience in safety, occupational health, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
Experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or similar are highly desirable.
Hourly Pay Rate
$30.00 $45.00 per hour
