Intermediate to Senior Backend Engineer (Camunda C#)

Software Developer II – C# / Camunda (12-Month Contract)
Sandton – Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 remote)

We are recruiting for an experienced Software Developer II to join a high-performing engineering team delivering enterprise workflow and backend systems within a large financial services environment.

This role focuses on building scalable backend services and workflow orchestration solutions using C#, Camunda, and MS SQL, while contributing to system design and mentoring junior developers.

The position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, mission-critical systems in a collaborative Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality backend software aligned with detailed technical designs

• Build and maintain Camunda workflow solutions and integrations

• Develop robust and scalable system components using C# and .NET

• Design solutions that are fault tolerant, observable, and maintainable

• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide guidance to team members

• Produce documentation aligned to organisational engineering standards

• Develop and execute unit and system tests

• Create and manage deployment artefacts and source control repositories

• Support production systems and continuous improvement initiatives

• Collaborate with engineering leads, product owners and architects to refine solutions

• Mentor and support other developers within the team

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in C# and .NET development

• Proven experience working with MS SQL Server

• Experience developing enterprise backend systems or microservices

• Experience with Camunda BPM (Associate certification preferred)

• Experience building and integrating REST APIs

• Understanding of system design, scalability and observability

• Experience working in Agile delivery environments

Advantageous

• Camunda workflow orchestration experience

• Experience within financial services or large enterprise environments

• CI/CD pipeline experience

• Experience working with distributed systems

Contract Details

• Contract: 12 months

• Location: Sandton (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)

• Rate: Market related
