The Head of Disbursement owns the strategy, growth, and operating results for a cloud-based disbursement platform. The platform supports electronic funds delivery across sectors including healthcare, education, insurance, government, real estate, and the gig economy.
This role runs the disbursements business end to end. The focus is scaling a growing product from approximately $5M to $20M in P&L, expanding use cases, and driving adoption across new verticals. The leader brings strong domain knowledge across push-to-debit, prepaid and virtual cards, RTP, and emerging payout rails, paired with the ability to run a business, guide product direction, and own revenue outcomes.
What You Will Do
- Own the overall strategy, growth, and P&L for the B2B and C2C disbursement platform.
- Scale the business from approximately $5M to $20M in revenue through vertical expansion, new use cases, and deeper customer adoption.
- Define and prioritize payout use cases across healthcare refunds, insurance claims, earned wage access, gig economy payouts, real estate disbursements, education refunds, and government payments.
- Guide product direction based on market needs, revenue opportunity, and operational feasibility, working closely with product and engineering teams.
- Oversee payout capabilities across push to debit, prepaid and virtual cards, RTP, and closed-loop card programs.
- Bring a strong working understanding of the disbursements technology stack, including BIN sponsorship, network rails, risk controls, settlement flows, and fraud management.
- Partner closely with Risk, Compliance, Legal, IT, Operations, Sales, and Marketing to support secure, compliant, and scalable growth.
- Ensure regulatory alignment across federal and state requirements, including OFAC and other payments-related controls.
- Serve as a senior commercial leader for the platform, supporting sales efforts with use case development, solution positioning, and executive-level customer conversations.
- Own financial performance, including revenue targets, margin management, and cost discipline.
- Build and lead a high-performing team over time, setting clear accountability and operating rigor.
What You Bring:
- 10+ years of experience in B2C and/or C2C disbursements or payouts.
- Direct experience operating or scaling a disbursements business.
- Strong domain knowledge across push to debit, prepaid and virtual cards, RTP, and alternative payout methods.
- Experience working with or alongside payment networks, sponsor banks, and risk partners.
- Understanding of how disbursement platforms are built and operated, including risk, compliance, and settlement mechanics.
- Commercial mindset with proven P&L ownership and revenue accountability.
- Background partnering closely with product and sales teams to drive adoption and growth.
- Experience serving markets such as healthcare, insurance, gig economy, education, real estate, or government.
- Ability to operate hands-on in early stages and scale leadership as the business grows.
- Clear communicator with the ability to engage executives, partners, and internal stakeholders.
