About the job Director, Financial Planning and Analysis
Our client, a private equity backed vertical SaaS company, is seeking a Director of FP&A to serve as the dedicated financial partner to a rapidly growing payments business. This role sits within the finance organization and is responsible for building the financial foundation that supports scaling the payments P&L, optimizing partner economics, and enabling data driven pricing decisions. The position leads reporting, forecasting, and strategic analysis while translating complex processing data into clear insights for executive leadership. As a foundational hire, this individual will establish core models, frameworks, and processes that shape how payments performance is measured and managed. The role requires deep payments expertise combined with advanced financial modeling capability.
What You Will Do
- Own financial reporting for the payments business, translating transaction level data into executive level insights and reporting packages
- Build and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual P&L reporting for finance leadership and executive stakeholders
- Analyze key unit economics including gross and net revenue, take rate trends, and contribution margins across cohorts, verticals, and channels
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long range planning for payments, including driver based and scenario modeling
- Deliver variance analysis with clear commentary on performance against plan and prior periods
- Develop and maintain partner level financial models to track residuals, revenue share structures, and contract compliance
- Evaluate financial impact of partner agreements, pricing changes, and new initiatives using IRR and NPV analysis
- Support sales with deal level profitability models, pricing tools, and rate card development
- Establish and enforce deal approval frameworks and return thresholds across customer segments
- Identify underperforming accounts and recommend pricing or contract optimization strategies
- Build dashboards and analytics to track volume, revenue, take rate, margin, and churn risk
- Conduct ad hoc analysis to support strategic initiatives, including new products, partnerships, and M&A activity
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
- 5 to 7 years of progressive finance experience with meaningful experience in the payments industry
- Direct experience within a payment processor, acquirer, card network, or payments focused SaaS environment
- Deep understanding of payments economics including interchange, assessment fees, residuals, and take rate calculations
- Advanced financial modeling skills with experience building driver based models in Excel and similar tools
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
- Ability to synthesize large datasets into clear insights and executive level narratives
- Experience collaborating cross functionally with sales, operations, legal, and leadership teams
