Senior Hardware Systems Engineer - Payments

Our client is a global technology company that designs and delivers secure, embedded payment hardware used by leading retail, hospitality, and enterprise organizations worldwide. Their products support advanced payment acceptance across contact, contactless, and mobile platforms. In this role, you will drive the architecture, design, and development of next-generation payment devices, ensuring quality, compliance, and reliability from concept through high-volume production.

What You Will Do

• Partner with sales, product management, and customers to define requirements for new payment hardware products.
• Design secure and compliant payment hardware solutions from concept through mass production.
• Lead cross-functional teams on payment technologies including EMV, PCI-PTS, and hardware security design.
• Manage new product introductions and guide design partners through scale-up to high-volume manufacturing.
• Create and maintain vendor specifications and technical documentation for external production partners.
• Oversee QA, Level 1, and prelaunch testing, reviewing results with cross-functional teams to ensure all performance requirements are met.
• Identify and resolve engineering issues quickly to support project timelines.
• Prepare and present technical reports to leadership, engineering teams, and external partners.
• Support sales and customer teams with product design insights and post-launch engineering assistance.
• Design and review schematics and printed circuit board layouts.
• Create and manage engineering change orders (ECO/ECR).
• Travel domestically and internationally as needed, approximately four times per year.

What You Bring

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in hardware and payment technology development.
• Proven experience designing and delivering secure, compliant payment systems and components.
• Strong understanding of EMV and PCI-PTS standards and design requirements.
• Hands-on experience leading projects from prototype through high-volume production.
• At least 5 years of experience in payment hardware design.
• Familiarity with Android devices, including GMS/CTS compliance.
• Experience with EMVCo Level 1 and Level 2 certifications.
• Expertise in integrated payment technologies including EMV contact, contactless, and MSR.
• Experience designing secure payment modules, tamper-proof hardware, and mesh protection systems.
• NFC antenna design experience.
• Experience using certification tools such as FIME EVAL, UL Collis Brand Test Tool, or ICCSolutions.
• Cellular hardware design experience (5G, LTE, 4G).
• Background in display or graphics system design.
• Experience collaborating with international manufacturing partners.
• Experience developing mobile or handheld devices preferred.
