The organization continues to expand its international footprint and is investing in senior leadership to strengthen and grow its payments business. Payments already contribute a significant share of company revenue, and the next phase of growth requires a leader who can scale the function across strategy, product, partnerships, and operations.
The Head of Payments is a critical growth leader responsible for expanding a multi region payments business into a larger driver of revenue and international scale. The role shapes and delivers a strategy that increases adoption, grows payment volume, and opens new market opportunities in the United States and abroad. With a mandate to build for scale, this leader drives improvements in payment experiences, strengthens partner relationships, improves success rates, and evolves the payments infrastructure to support rapid global growth. The position partners closely with Finance, Product, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing to elevate payments as a core contributor to long term company performance.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience scaling a payments business within a software environment. This person has owned a payment P&L, driven strong engagement and attach, and delivered measurable revenue outcomes. The company is seeking someone on an upward trajectory who has taken a payments function from an earlier stage to a more mature, high performing operation.
What You Will Do
- Provide executive level leadership for a global payments organization inside a high growth software company. Oversee P&L performance and guide the strategy for expansion, revenue growth, and operational scale across multiple regions.
- Work with senior leaders across the business to build and execute annual and multi year plans for the financial services function. Create and maintain a strong pipeline of growth initiatives across existing and emerging revenue streams. Drive ongoing innovation, market expansion, and continuous improvement within a competitive environment.
- Bring significant experience in B2B payments and financial services, with deep knowledge of embedded and integrated payment models within a software platform. Lead product direction for payments, including the evaluation of potential partnerships and acquisition opportunities that strengthen the companys value proposition.
- Build strong relationships with product, engineering, and commercial teams. Partner with these groups to advance product development efforts, prioritize features, and communicate payment related value across stakeholders. Identify and assess new payment methods, technologies, and market opportunities that improve customer experience, strengthen conversion, and support international growth.
- Guide efforts to enhance payment routing, reconciliation workflows, and global treasury operations. Manage complex vendor relationships across payment service providers, acquiring banks, gateways, card networks, and other financial institutions. Identify and select new vendors where needed and develop alliances that support geographic expansion and competitive differentiation.
- Serve as a hands on leader with a willingness to step into the details. Maintain a transparent and integrity driven approach to decision making. Promote a high performance culture grounded in accountability, problem solving, and operational excellence.
- Ensure full compliance with global payment regulations, including PSD2, SCA, GDPR, AML, KYC, PCI standards, and applicable card network requirements. Establish and enforce strong risk management and fraud prevention practices that protect the business while maintaining a smooth customer experience.
- Apply a data driven approach to all aspects of the role. Use metrics to analyze performance, guide strategy, and influence decisions across the payments organization.
What You Bring
- Senior leadership experience growing a payments business inside a software or technology company. Direct ownership of revenue, cost structure, and P&L for payments. Deep knowledge of acquiring, issuing, card networks, alternative payment methods, and global regulatory environments.
- A track record of improving authorization rates, reducing cost, and increasing payment attachment. Experience with ACH and card based processing. Strong understanding of payment architecture, integrations, and product development. Ability to work with engineering teams on technical decisions.
- Experience negotiating with PSPs, acquirers, gateways, and financial institutions. Background supporting payment operations across multiple countries.
- Strong analytical ability with experience using metrics to guide strategy and performance. Experience managing risk, fraud controls, and compliance.
- Clear communication skills, strong leadership presence, and the ability to work with senior executives across the organization.
