Engineering Leader (Hands On Full Stack)

Our client is seeking a Senior Technical Lead who combines hands on full stack engineering with ownership of delivery execution for a focused product development team. This role is responsible for driving Agile work management, ensuring roadmap execution stays on track, and contributing directly to a Java and React codebase. The position operates as a player coach, balancing active coding with leadership of a small team. Success in this role requires maintaining strong delivery momentum while upholding high engineering standards. The Senior Technical Lead serves as a key escalation point for execution risks and delivery challenges. This role is well suited for a senior engineer who thrives in both technical depth and execution ownership.

What You Will Do

• Own day to day delivery execution for a small engineering team, ensuring work progresses from planning through completion.
• Lead Agile ceremonies including backlog grooming, sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives with a focus on execution and outcomes.
• Ensure backlog readiness, ticket quality, dependency management, and visibility into work.
• Scope and sequence work to ensure development readiness and efficient delivery flow.
• Identify and remove blockers, risks, and execution gaps impacting delivery.
• Provide clear and concise updates on delivery status and roadmap progress to leadership.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for delivery issues tied to roadmap execution.
• Contribute production code by building end to end features using Java and React.
• Lead code reviews, pairing sessions, and hands on technical mentorship.
• Step into complex technical challenges to unblock progress and ensure delivery continuity.
• Ensure code quality, testability, maintainability, and alignment with engineering standards.
• Balance near term feature delivery with long term technical health.
• Manage a small number of engineers while remaining actively hands on.
• Conduct regular one on ones focused on performance, growth, and execution support.
• Support onboarding and ongoing development of engineers on the team.

What You Bring

• Must be a senior engineer with experience actively contributing to a Java and React codebase while leading delivery execution.
• 5+ years of senior level full stack engineering experience delivering production software.
• 3+ years of experience building and operating payment platforms, including gateways and processor integrations.
• 3+ years of Java backend development experience.
• 2+ of React frontend development experience.
• 3+ years leading Agile delivery execution, including managing risks, removing blockers, and driving work to completion.
• 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams and supporting engineers through complex, high stakes initiatives.
• Experience with cloud native systems and modern CI CD practices.
• Experience improving Agile workflows, delivery processes, or team execution systems.
• Experience mentoring or leading engineers while remaining hands on.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver clear execution updates.
