About the job VP of Payments
We are hiring a Head of Payments for our client, a high-growth vertical SaaS company bringing payments in-house. This leader will oversee the development and launch of a merchant services program, combining product development, go-to-market execution, operations, and business strategy. The role requires close collaboration with partners to design and deliver a tailored merchant services offering.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role for an individual who thrives in both strategic and execution-focused work in a fast-moving, product-led environment.
What You Will Do
· Own the payments strategy, operations, infrastructure, compliance, and monetization
· Lead the development and growth of the merchant services business line
· Design and implement a comprehensive go-to-market plan for the merchant services program
· Build and manage relationships with payment processors, gateways, service partners, and suppliers
· Cultivate and maintain partner relationships to enable seamless integrations and ongoing collaboration
· Establish a sales enablement framework and deliver training to internal teams
· Engage directly with customers to encourage adoption of payment solutions
· Optimize the customer payment experience and reduce operational friction
· Monitor and improve transaction success rates, chargeback ratios, processing fees, and payout timelines
· Ensure compliance with payment regulations, network rules, and security standards
· Oversee reconciliation processes, financial reporting, and adherence to processor terms
· Create scalable tools, documentation, and operational processes to support growth
· Implement risk management practices to ensure smooth execution
· Conduct market research to capture trends, opportunities, and competitive insights
· Track business performance metrics and make improvements backed by data
· Develop and execute a roadmap to expand the payments function and build the team
What You Bring
· At least 5 years of leadership experience working in a payments organization within a vertical SaaS company
· Proven ability to conceptualize, develop, and scale new business initiatives
· Experience with merchant acquiring, go to market, operations, risk/compliance.
· Familiarity with white-label models and channel sales strategies
· Demonstrated success at creating and executing payment monetization strategies
· Track record working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Support
· Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to varied audiences
· A self-driven builder with a history of operating from the ground up
· Experience hiring, mentoring, or leading payments or fintech teams
