Packet Core Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Packet Core Engineer to support the design, deployment, integration, and operational support of 4G and 5G packet core networks within a large-scale telecommunications environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with network architecture, operations, and vendor teams to ensure the stability, scalability, and performance of mobile core infrastructure supporting high-volume subscriber traffic.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support 4G/5G Packet Core network elements including SGW, PGW, SMF, UPF, MME, and related core components.
• Perform integration, configuration, and testing of packet core nodes within production and lab environments.
• Troubleshoot data session issues, signaling flows, and subscriber connectivity problems across the mobile core network.
• Analyze GTP, Diameter, and SCTP signaling for fault diagnosis and performance optimization.
• Support network upgrades, expansions, and technology migrations within the packet core domain.
• Work with vendors and internal teams to resolve network incidents and service degradation events.
• Participate in change management, implementation planning, and operational readiness activities.
• Develop and maintain network documentation, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
• Assist with capacity planning and performance monitoring to ensure service availability and quality.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience working with mobile packet core networks (EPC / 5GC).
• Hands-on experience with SGW, PGW, MME, SMF, UPF, or similar packet core elements.
• Good understanding of LTE and 5G network architecture.
• Experience analyzing GTP, Diameter, and IP signaling protocols.
• Solid understanding of IP networking fundamentals including routing, switching, and TCP/IP.
• Experience supporting live production telecom networks.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues using packet captures and network monitoring tools.

Good to Have

• Experience with vendor packet core platforms (Ericsson, Nokia).
• Familiarity with cloud-native or virtualized packet core deployments (NFV / CNF).
• Experience working with Linux environments and scripting (Python, Bash).
• Understanding of 5G SBA architecture and service-based interfaces.
