Position Overview

Now hiring CDL-A drivers for a regional intermodal position based in the Chicago/Joliet, IL area. This role offers strong weekly averages, consistent freight, and flexible scheduling with guaranteed home time, making it ideal for drivers looking for both stability and control over their schedule.

Drivers will haul intermodal containers across Midwest regional lanes with steady freight and modern equipment.

Route & Freight Details

  • Regional runs across:
    • IL, IN, WI, MI, OH, KY, IA
  • Average:
    • ~2,200 miles per week
  • Freight includes:
    • Intermodal containers on chassis
  • Mix of:
    • ~75% drop & hook
    • ~25% live load/unload
  • Majority no-touch freight
  • ~5% refrigerated intermodal loads

Schedule & Home Time

  • Home weekly with guaranteed 48-hour reset
  • Drivers choose:
    • 2 consecutive days off each week (not Saturday/Sunday)
  • Flexible start time:
    • Must remain consistent week to week

More control over schedule than most regional jobs

Pay & Compensation

  • Avg Weekly Pay: $1,650–$1,750
  • Avg Annual Pay: $86,000 – $89,000

Mileage Pay:

  • $0.64 – $0.69 CPM

Additional Pay:

  • $65 live stop pay
  • $35 drop & hook pay

Equipment & Work Setup

  • Mid-roof sleeper tractors (Freightliner & International)
  • Automatic transmission
  • Intermodal chassis equipment
  • Average fleet age: ~2.5 years
  • Drivers within 50 miles must park truck at terminal

Training

  • Regional training with trainer (double bunk trucks)
  • $250/day training pay

Work Environment

  • No-touch freight = minimal physical labor
  • Consistent rail yard freight
  • Mix of day and night driving depending on schedule

Requirements

  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Minimum 3 months of tractor-trailer experience required
  • Must be able to:
    • Work flexible schedules
    • Maintain consistent start times
    • Handle regional intermodal freight
