Position Overview

Now hiring CDL-A drivers for a dedicated rail support position based in Altoona, PA. This role offers high weekly averages, consistent freight, and a unique schedule with mostly daily home time plus one weekly layover.

Drivers will haul specialized freight and coordinate trailer swaps with other drivers across regional lanes.

Route & Freight Details

• Regional lanes across:
  • PA, OH, IN, VA
• Average:
  • ~2,400–2,800 miles per week
• Freight includes:
  • Railroad parts and locomotive components
• Mix of:
  • Drop & hook
  • Tailgating freight (moving product to rear of trailer)
• ~20% of loads include broken-down locomotive parts
• Drivers will:
  • Swap trailers with another driver at designated meet points

Schedule

• Monday – Saturday
• Home daily Monday – Thursday
• 1 layover on Friday
• Return home Saturday evening
• 24/7 operation:
  • Must be available for weekends and holidays
• All holidays worked except Christmas Day

Pay & Compensation

• Avg Weekly Pay: $1,800–$1,900
• Avg Annual Pay: $93,000 – $98,000

Mileage Pay:

• $0.58 CPM (increases to $0.59 after 12 months)

Hourly Pay:

• $18/hour

Additional Pay:

• $14 stop pay (starting at first stop)
• $10 tailgate pay per load
• $17/hour delay pay (after 1 hour)
• $17/hour breakdown pay

Bonuses

• $500 transition bonus (paid on second paycheck)

Equipment & Work Setup

• 2022+ Kenworth & Freightliner sleeper trucks
• 53' dry van trailers
• Automatic transmissions
• No slip seating
• Outward-facing cameras
• Trucks governed at 65 MPH

Work Environment

• Dedicated, long-term freight account
• Some physical activity required (up to 50 lbs)
• Structured trailer swap system between drivers

Requirements

• Valid CDL-A license
• Minimum 6 months of recent tractor-trailer experience required
• Hazmat endorsement required
• Must be able to:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Work weekends and holidays
  • Coordinate trailer swaps with other drivers
