Role Overview

A dedicated Smithfield fleet is seeking experienced CDL-A drivers for a hybrid local and OTR driving position based out of Tar Heel, NC. This role offers a combination of local 12-hour shifts and weekly OTR runs while hauling consistent no-touch freight. Drivers will operate within a 300-mile radius of Tar Heel, NC and enjoy stable freight, predictable weekly miles, and weekly home time.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely transport no-touch freight across local and regional routes
• Deliver freight within a 300-mile radius of Tar Heel, NC
• Operate both 12-hour local shifts and overnight OTR runs
• Maintain compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Accurately maintain logs and delivery documentation
• Communicate effectively with dispatch and operations personnel
• Operate safely during night driving and weekend schedules

Requirements

• Valid CDL-A license required
• Experienced CDL-A drivers required
• Ability to drive at night and operate flexible schedules
• Comfortable operating both local and OTR routes
• Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
• Reliable transportation required since trucks cannot be taken home
• Ability to stay out over the road 2–3 times per week based on customer needs
• Strong safety mindset and reliable attendance

Schedule & Home Time

• Weekly home time
• Combination of:
  • 12-hour local shifts
  • Weekly OTR runs
• Drivers may stay out 2–3 nights per week depending on customer needs
• Weekend and holiday work required
• Night driving required
• Schedule based on customer demand

• Slip-seat operation
• Trucks cannot be taken home
• Drivers must commute to the Tar Heel facility
• Office staff and maintenance team onsite
