Role Overview
A respected and established CPA firm in Houston, Texas is seeking an experienced Senior Tax CPA / Tax Manager to join its growing public accounting team.
This is a long-term leadership opportunity for a seasoned tax professional with strong technical expertise in complex individual and business tax returns, advanced tax planning, and client relationship management. The firm is seeking someone who can provide high-level tax guidance while helping mentor staff and eventually assume signing authority responsibilities within the organization.
The ideal candidate has deep public accounting experience, strong leadership instincts, and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service within a collaborative and professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Review
Prepare and review complex federal tax returns including:
- 1040
- 1120S
- 1120
- 1065
- 709
Ensure technical accuracy and compliance across all tax engagements
Manage multiple client deadlines and tax engagements simultaneously
Review tax filings and supporting documentation thoroughly
Tax Planning & Advisory
Conduct advanced tax research and analysis
Provide strategic tax planning recommendations to clients
Advise clients on financial, tax, and business matters
Identify tax-saving opportunities and compliance solutions
Support long-term client financial planning initiatives
Client & Team Leadership
Build and maintain strong client relationships
Mentor and support junior accounting and tax staff
Collaborate with firm leadership on client service initiatives
Help maintain high professional and ethical standards
Support future leadership growth and signing authority responsibilities
Operations & Compliance
Work across multiple tax and accounting software platforms
Maintain strong documentation and engagement organization
Ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations
Support process improvements and operational efficiency initiatives
Requirements
Active CPA license required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum 10 years of recent public accounting tax experience
Strong experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns
Advanced tax research and problem-solving abilities
Strong understanding of federal and state tax compliance and planning
Experience using multiple tax and accounting software platforms
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple client relationships and deadlines
Strong professionalism, ethics, and leadership mentality
Preferred Qualifications
Experience mentoring or developing junior accounting staff
Leadership or management experience within CPA firm environments
Strong client advisory and relationship management background
