The CWI will be a key member of the Quality Department, working closely with the Quality Manager, QC Supervisor, and Shop Foreman/Supervisor.  This individual will conduct inspections, review procedures, and support the Quality team in ensuring compliance with codes, customer specifications, and internal standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections to determine if weldments meet acceptance criteria per applicable codes, standards, or customer specifications (ASME, AWS, API, or project-specific requirements).
  • Conduct visual inspection of completed work and recommend repairs when necessary.
  • Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualification records, including bend testing.
  • Read and interpret job specifications, shop drawings, and fabrication plans to ensure proper layout, fit up, and weldment quality.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate inspection reports and maintain organized documentation and filing systems.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, production, and other employees.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to welding personnel and less-experienced inspectors.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and management to resolve welding or quality-related issues.
  • Assist with audits, continuous improvement initiatives, and other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred; active AWS CWI strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on welding experience and/or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31, ASME BPVC Section VIII, and Section IX is a plus (not required).
  • Understanding of Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), filler metal selection, and welder qualification testing.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques for carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloys, including FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and SAW.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, with general computer and email proficiency.
  • Strong attention to detail, ethical standards, and self-motivation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, be proactive, and assist the Quality team when needed.


ASNT SNT-TC-1A NDT Level II certification in one or more methods:

  • Radiographic Testing (RT)
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT Shear Wave preferred)
  • Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Visual Testing (VT)
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in QC or welding inspection.
  • Experience with quality audits, process improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Education & Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional formal training or certifications in welding, inspection, or quality systems is a plus.


Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift, bend, and perform inspections in a pipe fabrication environment.
  • Comfortable working in varied environments, including elevated areas, confined spaces, and around active fabrication operations.
