Support geochemical assessments and water quality predictions for copper mining projects in Africa. The role will combine geochemical data analysis, modelling, fieldwork and technical reporting.

Working with a broader technical team, the successful person will interpret geochemical information, assess potential environmental impacts and communicate findings clearly to technical and non technical audiences.

Accountabilities

• Support acid rock drainage and metal leaching assessments for mine sites.
• Analyse large geochemical datasets, including quality control, interpretation and reporting.
• Undertake mine site water quality predictions using geochemical modelling software.
• Conduct geochemical and environmental fieldwork, including the collection of rock, soil and water samples.
• Prepare technical reports that explain geochemical findings and their implications clearly.
• Present results and technical conclusions to project teams and other stakeholders.
• Organise project meetings, maintain documentation and follow procedures that support accurate and timely reporting.
• Manage multiple assignments and contribute to other related technical work as required.

Qualifications

• Degree in geology, geochemistry or a related discipline. A higher degree involving environmental geochemistry or hydrogeochemistry would be an advantage.
• Several years of experience in applied geochemical modelling.
• Good understanding of geochemistry, geology and mineralogy.
• Experience analysing large geochemical datasets, including quality control and interpretation.
• Experience with software such as PHREEQC, MINTEQ or Geochemist's Workbench.
• General knowledge of mining related environmental issues, regulations and policies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Strong attention to detail, critical analysis, writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage several assignments and contribute within a changing project environment.
• Willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork.
