Take ownership of the technical studies for a substantial gold development as it moves toward its next major decision point. Based in Perth, the Study Manager will establish the development framework, coordinate all technical disciplines and build the business case required to advance the project.

This is a senior owner's role within a compact project team. The successful person will have considerable influence over development strategy, capital allocation and the pathway from resource definition through approval and execution.

Company

An emerging gold development business progressing a large and technically complex Australian asset. The project has the potential to support a significant mining and processing operation, requiring major capital investment and a carefully considered development strategy.

The organisation operates with a small senior team and relies on strong owner oversight, disciplined decision making and close engagement with specialist consultants.

Accountabilities

  • Establish the study framework and lead the project through prefeasibility and later evaluation stages.
  • Define study objectives, work packages, governance, budgets, schedules and decision criteria.
  • Bring together mining, metallurgy, infrastructure, approvals, environmental and commercial inputs into one development plan.
  • Ensure study priorities remain aligned with the evolving resource model and planned geological milestones.
  • Compare development concepts and recommend the option that provides the strongest overall project value.
  • Direct technical option reviews, value improvement activities and major design decisions.
  • Develop appropriate capital and operating cost estimates as study confidence increases.
  • Select and manage engineering firms, consultants and specialist advisers.
  • Maintain strong owner control over external work, technical assumptions and recommendations.
  • Test consultant outputs and challenge conclusions that do not support the project's long term interests.
  • Identify material risks across technical design, execution, approvals, schedule and project economics.
  • Develop practical responses to uncertainty and incorporate them into the development strategy.
  • Prepare clear recommendations for executive leadership, the Board and other decision makers.
  • Support investment decisions and the eventual transition into engineering, project approval and delivery.
  • Promote accountability, constructive technical debate and close collaboration within the project team.

Qualifications

  • Substantial experience leading mining studies on major gold, copper or comparable developments.
  • Previous responsibility for a prefeasibility or feasibility study that progressed toward an investment decision.
  • Exposure to large and complex capital projects within a technically disciplined mining organisation.
  • Strong understanding of open pit mine development, mineral processing and supporting infrastructure.
  • Background in engineering, project management or another relevant technical discipline.
  • Experience working within an owner's project team is strongly preferred.
  • Consulting or engineering house experience would complement a strong operating company background.
  • Ability to evaluate technical alternatives through project economics, value and risk.
  • Sound understanding of capital estimation, operating cost development and study governance.
  • Confidence managing and challenging consultants, engineers and technical specialists.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to convert complex technical information into clear recommendations.
  • Comfortable working directly with executive leadership and Board level stakeholders.
  • Practical and energetic approach suited to a small team with significant individual accountability.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering or another applicable technical field.
