Senior Ventilation Engineer

 Job Description:

Design, monitor and improve the underground ventilation system while leading associated infrastructure projects.

Integrate ventilation requirements with mine plans, development schedules and production objectives while strengthening local engineering capability.

A major international gold producer operating a large scale underground and open pit mine in a remote developing nation. The operation is progressing new underground projects and requires experienced technical leadership across ventilation, infrastructure and workforce development.


Accountabilities

  • Lead underground ventilation and infrastructure projects aligned with production, development and safety objectives.
  • Develop short, medium and long term ventilation plans.
  • Integrate ventilation requirements with mine designs, schedules and operating plans.
  • Conduct ventilation surveys, airflow assessments and system audits.
  • Maintain and update ventilation models using current mine data.
  • Analyse performance and identify capacity constraints, risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide technical input into fans, controls, regulators, doors and associated infrastructure.
  • Support ventilation requirements for new developments and project areas.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, resources and contractor performance.
  • Investigate ventilation incidents, deviations and performance issues.
  • Develop ventilation standards, procedures and management plans.
  • Lead technical risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, forecasts, budget submissions and performance updates.
  • Mentor junior engineers and national employees.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of underground mining experience.
  • Three to five years in a senior ventilation or project engineering position.
  • Strong underground ventilation design and management expertise.
  • Proficiency with recognised ventilation modelling software.
  • Experience delivering underground infrastructure projects.
  • Capability in budgeting, scheduling and contractor management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.
  • Experience in multicultural, remote rostered environments.
  • Large scale hard rock mining experience, preferably within gold.
