Technical Services Superintendent

 Job Description:

Provide owner side accountability for underground engineering while remaining closely involved in core technical delivery. The role combines technical governance with medium and long term planning, mine design, ground control integration and ventilation engineering support.

An established international gold producer operating a mature open pit and underground mine in West Africa. Continued optimisation of mine sequencing, technical systems and contractor performance is central to sustaining long term operational value.


Accountabilities

  • Lead the underground technical services function across planning, design, ground control and ventilation.
  • Act as the owner side senior technical authority and maintain appropriate engineering standards.
  • Own the medium and long term underground mine plan, including development sequencing and production assumptions.
  • Oversee mine design, stope layouts and mining method selection while integrating geotechnical and ventilation requirements.
  • Review contractor plans, schedules, design updates and technical submissions.
  • Challenge assumptions and ensure proposed solutions align with operational objectives.
  • Coordinate planning, geotechnical, ventilation, survey, geology and operations inputs.
  • Ensure technical solutions are sound, practical and executable.
  • Lead and communicate effectively across all levels of the operation.
  • Establish effective systems and processes that support team performance.
  • Identify, mentor and develop emerging talent within the multidisciplinary team.


Qualifications

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
  • At least 10 years of underground mining experience with strong exposure to planning, design and technical services leadership.
  • Proven medium and long term underground planning and development sequencing experience.
  • Strong practical capability with recognised mine planning and design software, including Deswik or Surpac.
  • Demonstrated integration of ground control and geotechnical requirements into underground mine design.
  • Practical knowledge of underground ventilation principles and design inputs.
  • Experience within an owner team overseeing major underground mining contractors.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management capability in multidisciplinary environments.
