The Opportunity
A growing gold mining company is seeking an experienced Deputy General Manager to play a key leadership role in the development, construction readiness and operational ramp up of a significant open pit gold project in Latin America.
This position offers the opportunity to join an operation at a pivotal stage of its growth, supporting the transition from project development into production while helping establish the systems, culture and leadership framework required for long term operational success.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the successful candidate will act as the second most senior operational leader on site and will provide oversight across mining, technical services, operational readiness and production functions. The role requires a highly visible leader capable of bridging strategic objectives with practical site execution.
The organisation is seeking an individual with proven mine startup experience who understands the challenges associated with building teams, establishing operational discipline, implementing systems and delivering production outcomes within a developing operation.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the General Manager in all aspects of site leadership, operational readiness and business performance.
- Assist in the transition from project development and construction into safe and efficient mining operations.
- Lead operational planning and execution activities to ensure production, safety and cost objectives are achieved.
- Provide leadership across Mining, Technical Services and operational support functions.
- Drive operational excellence initiatives focused on productivity, efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Ensure strong integration between Mining, Technical Services, Maintenance, Processing and support departments.
- Develop and implement systems, processes and reporting structures required for a successful startup operation.
- Support workforce development, succession planning and leadership capability building across the operation.
- Monitor operational performance and implement corrective actions where required.
- Manage budgets, forecasts and cost control initiatives in line with business objectives.
- Foster strong relationships with local communities, government stakeholders and internal leadership teams.
- Act as General Manager when required, providing continuity of leadership and decision making.
What Success Looks Like
During the first 12 months, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Support the successful startup and ramp up of a new open pit gold operation.
- Build strong operational systems and management processes across the site.
- Establish a culture of accountability, safety and operational discipline.
- Deliver stable production performance while maintaining cost and budget targets.
- Develop strong working relationships across operational and technical teams.
- Build credibility and trust throughout the workforce and local stakeholder groups.
- Identify and develop future leaders within the operation.
- Improve operational efficiency and productivity during the ramp up phase.
- Support the General Manager in positioning the operation for long term success.
- Contribute to the achievement of key project and operational milestones.

Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years of mining industry experience.
- Previous experience at Mining Manager, Senior Mining Manager, Operations Manager, Deputy General Manager or General Manager level.
- Proven experience supporting the startup, commissioning or ramp up of an open pit mining operation.
- Strong background in open pit gold mining operations.
- Experience leading large operational and technical teams.
- Demonstrated success delivering safety, production and cost objectives.
- Strong commercial and financial understanding.
- Fluent Spanish and professional level English communication skills.
- Experience working within Latin America is highly desirable.
- Eligibility and willingness to work on a residential basis within a regional Latin American city or town.
