Principal Exploration Geologist
Job Description:
Provide senior technical leadership across regional gold exploration, ensuring geological work is completed to the highest technical standard and aligned with the wider exploration strategy.
Develop new geological concepts, identify emerging opportunities and strengthen the exploration pipeline from grassroots targeting through to advanced prospects.
Lead the technical evaluation of partnerships, joint ventures, acquisitions and other new business opportunities capable of strengthening the company's exploration portfolio and supporting long term value creation.

Accountabilities
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise across regional gold and copper exploration programmes.
- Ensure geological work complies with relevant safety procedures, environmental standards and recognised industry practices.
- Lead exploration teams in the application of geological interpretation, targeting and field exploration best practice.
- Ensure exploration programmes are technically appropriate, commercially focused and aligned with strategic objectives.
- Review geological interpretations, exploration strategies and work programmes across the regional portfolio.
- Ensure high quality geological models are developed and maintained for exploration targets and mineralised systems.
- Maintain a healthy exploration pipeline through effective target evaluation, ranking, prioritisation and portfolio management.
- Lead and contribute to generative studies, regional targeting programmes and the development of new exploration concepts.
- Integrate geological, geophysical and geochemical datasets to improve targeting and exploration decisions.
- Monitor geological research, emerging technologies and industry developments to improve exploration methodologies, tools and processes.
- Communicate complex geological findings and recommendations through clear technical reports and presentations.
- Mentor and train geologists while identifying capability gaps and implementing appropriate development programmes.
- Identify, develop and retain technical talent, with a particular focus on building the capability of national employees.
- Build effective relationships with government departments, universities, contractors, competitors and other industry stakeholders.
- Use industry relationships and regional knowledge to identify new business opportunities that meet the company's strategic and investment criteria.
- Maintain the new business opportunity tracking system and coordinate reviews across exploration, resource management, evaluation, legal and corporate strategy teams.
- Lead technical reviews of potential opportunities from initial desktop assessment through confidentiality agreements, field evaluation and formal recommendations.
- Provide geological input into technical due diligence, project risk assessment, valuation assumptions and investment decisions.
- Support the negotiation of commercial agreements in partnership with corporate and legal stakeholders.
- Ensure alignment across exploration, evaluation, legal, strategic and country leadership teams throughout each opportunity review.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geoscience or a related discipline.
- Master's degree or doctorate would be highly regarded.
- At least 15 years of greenfields and brownfields exploration experience, including substantial experience in senior technical specialist positions.
- Extensive experience with orogenic and structurally controlled gold deposits.
- Strong understanding of mineralisation models, geological processes and exploration targeting principles.
- Demonstrated leadership in generative exploration, including target definition, reconnaissance fieldwork, prospect ranking and pipeline development.
- Strong experience assessing new business opportunities, including technical due diligence, project valuation inputs and risk assessment.
- Experience evaluating acquisition, joint venture, partnership and other strategic growth opportunities.
- Strong geological, geophysical and geochemical interpretation and integration capability.
- Significant field based exploration experience within Africa.
- Exposure to major exploration districts and large mineral systems, with a record of contributing to discovery considered advantageous.
- Proficiency with geographic information systems and three dimensional geological modelling software.
- Ability to prepare concise technical and commercially focused reports and presentations for technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental responsibility and positive community relationships.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, communication and stakeholder management capability.
- Continued professional development, relevant technical training and membership of an appropriate professional organisation.
