About the job Chief Geologist
Key Responsibilities:
Resource Management:
Develop and implement mineral resource management policies, processes, and procedures across all technical functions.
Oversee geological surveys, sampling, and data analysis to estimate and classify mineral resources and reserves.
Compile and review mine work plans to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Planning and Execution:
Direct mine planning, scheduling, and ore characterization to optimise resource extraction.
Lead short and medium-term planning aligned with forecasting, budgeting, and life-of-mine plans.
Budget Management:
Formulate and manage operating and capital budgets for the technical services team.
Technical Leadership:
Lead and manage geology, mining engineering, geotechnical, hydrogeology, and survey teams.
Ensure close collaboration with mining operations, fleet management, dewatering, and safety teams.
Compliance:
Ensure adherence to health, safety, legal, and regulatory requirements within technical services.
Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare and present monthly, annual, and life-of-mine reports, including tonnage and grade updates.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify and implement best practices and innovations in mineral resource management.
Due Diligence:
Support due diligence reviews for potential mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
Key Requirements:
BSc degree in Mining Engineering, Mine Geology, Mining Surveying, or related field.
Minimum 10 years experience in mineral resource management or technical services in mining.
At least 5 years in a managerial role within the mining industry.
Strong knowledge of mine geology, survey, planning, and scheduling.
Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced computer skills.
Fluent in English
Strong communication, collaboration, and cross-cultural team leadership skills.
Proven ability to work under tight timelines while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
Coaching and Mentoring:
Experience in coaching and mentoring team members to develop skills and performance.
Ability to create growth plans, set clear goals, and foster engagement and long-term development.
