JOB PURPOSE

As a General Cashier, you will be responsible for the accurate handling, recording, safeguarding, and reconciliation of all cash and cash-equivalent transactions within the hotel. You will ensure that all cash collections are properly accounted for and deposited in accordance with hotel policies and financial procedures.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collect, verify, count, and reconcile all daily cash, cheque, credit card, and other payment collections received from hotel outlets and departments.
  • Prepare and maintain daily cash summaries and ensure all collections are deposited in the designated bank account in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all cash receipts, petty cash transactions, and cash advances are accurately recorded and supported with proper documentation.
  • Perform daily reconciliation of cash collections against reports generated from Opera, Micros, and other hotel systems.
  • Verify and investigate any cash discrepancies, shortages, overages, or unusual transactions and report findings to the Assistant Financial Controller or Director of Finance.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date Petty Cash Fund, ensuring all disbursements are properly approved and documented.
  • Prepare petty cash reimbursement requests and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Safeguard all cash, cheque books, foreign currency, and other negotiable instruments in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintain proper filing and record retention of all cashiering documents, deposit slips, reimbursement forms, and supporting reports.
  • Assist in month-end closing activities by preparing cash-related reconciliations and schedules.
  • Coordinate closely with Front Office, Food & Beverage, Accounts Receivable, and other departments to ensure accurate recording of revenues and collections.
  • Verify foreign currency exchange transactions and ensure compliance with hotel policies and local regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, audit requirements, and financial procedures.
  • Assist external and internal auditors by providing required documentation and explanations related to cash transactions.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Finance or Assistant Financial Controller.

YOU SHOULD HAVE

  • Must have at least 2 years of experience as a General Cashier or Cashier within the Finance Department of a star-class hotel (Mandatory).
  • Hospitality industry experience is mandatory.
  • Thorough knowledge of Opera PMS, Micros POS, and financial accounting systems.
  • Strong understanding of cash handling procedures, banking processes, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed financial records.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English at an advanced level.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Effective communication skills and a professional, trustworthy personality.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Be fully conversant with health and safety procedures, company policies, and emergency procedures.
