Position Summary:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for smooth operation of the entire hotel by ensuring all the engineering processes, checklists are followed daily. He/She should establish a rapport and foster a spirit of cooperation and respect and to be willing to assist and be helpful.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and guide Engineering associates in their daily duties and responsibilities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of all engineering operational areas (plant rooms) at least once a week and report any equipment malfunctions to the General Manager.
  • Monitor and verify all Engineering logbook entries to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Personally supervise all hazardous work activities and ensure strict compliance with safety procedures and regulations.
  • Monitor the implementation of all energy conservation procedures and report any irregularities or non-compliance to the General Manager.
  • Prepare monthly comparative utility consumption reports and ensure the proper calibration of all utility recording instruments.
  • Ensure timely completion of maintenance requests, with particular attention to guest-related jobs.
  • Assist the Materials Management team in the procurement of engineering spare parts and consumables.
  • Prepare purchase requests and follow up with Materials Management regarding required items and deliveries.
  • Assist the General Manager in preparing planned preventive maintenance schedules and guest room servicing procedures.
  • Provide cost and time estimates for maintenance and repair work requests.
  • Allocate work requests, scheduled maintenance, and repair tasks to Engineering associates effectively.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, hotel procedures, guest safety, and professional conduct.
  • Coordinate engineering and maintenance activities with other hotel departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of the Emergency Response Plan and ensure the proper operation and maintenance of all life safety and security systems.
  • Assist in monitoring and controlling environmental awareness and protection programs to ensure compliance by all hotel departments, and report areas requiring improvement to the General Manager.
  • Assist in ensuring that the property, its systems, and operational procedures comply with all applicable local and national regulations and codes, and report any non-compliance to the General Manager.

Person Specification – Engineering Manager

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related discipline) is a must.
  • Minimum 7 - 10 years of engineering experience, with at least 3–5 years in as a Manager of Engineering in a hotel or similar facility.
  • Strong technical knowledge in HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
  • Experience managing preventive maintenance programs and engineering teams.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership, team supervision, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good understanding of hotel building systems (BMS, fire safety systems, lifts, pumps, chillers, generators).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle emergency situations efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills with other departments.
  • Competence in preparing reports, maintenance logs, and basic cost control.
