Title: Engineer, Electrical Distribution System (EDS) Components Design Responsible Engineer (DRE)
Location: Novi, MI.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the design of all EDS components including shields, troughs, grommets, connectors & terminals, and power distribution components.
- You will cover from clean sheet of paper through virtual development, testing/sign-off and manufacturing launch for Scout all electric pick-up and rugged SUVs.
- Work with Purchasing and Finance counterparts to develop technical specifications in support of the quoting and sourcing process for components under your control.
- Develop and maintain a standard library of core EDS components aligned with global VW group owners that can be used in the design of EDS wiring and power distribution systems.
- Work with key VW Group module owners, and suppliers to define and release all EDS and power distribution components.
- Be part of a diverse team fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture, promoting continuous learning and professional development among team members.
- Perform virtual and physical verification testing, including field testing.
- Ensure designs conform to safety standards and U.S. government regulations.
- Proactively stay attuned to consumer experience and propose system improvements accordingly.
- Contribute to the design of production facilities for Scout trucks & SUVs.
- Manage supplier resources efficiently to deliver component designs that meet cost, timing, and quality targets.
Must have:
- Bachelors or masters degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, or a relevant field.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical wire harness and/or power distribution components design and release, and relevant automotive assignments, covering all phases of product development (design, test, and launch).
- Strong technical skills and expertise in wire harness component design and release, employing a six-sigma approach to engineering design and problem solving.
- Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE) or direct experience in this field.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels.
