Key responsibilities of a rehab tech may include:

  • Patient Assistance:
    • Helping patients with transfers and mobility tasks like getting in and out of chairs, beds, or wheelchairs.
    • Assisting with exercises as instructed by the therapist, including range of motion exercises, strengthening activities, and balance training.
    • Applying modalities like heat packs, ice packs, or electrical stimulation as directed.
    • Providing verbal encouragement and motivation to patients during therapy sessions.
  • Equipment Management:
    • Setting up and preparing therapeutic equipment like exercise machines, parallel bars, or assistive devices.
    • Cleaning and maintaining equipment after each use.
    • Ensuring equipment is in proper working order and reporting any malfunctions.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Recording patient progress during therapy sessions, including observations and measurements
    • Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation
    • Communicating patient progress and any concerns to the supervising therapist
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Scheduling patient appointments
    • Maintaining a clean and organized therapy area
    • Assisting with inventory management of supplies and equipment

Required qualifications for a rehab tech may include:

  • High school diploma
  • Completion of a certified rehabilitation technician program
  • Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology
