Job Purpose:

The IBM DataPower Expert is responsible for the design, implementation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM DataPower Gateway appliances to support secure and high-performance API, web service, and application integrations. The role focuses on enforcing security policies, optimizing traffic flow, and ensuring the seamless operation of enterprise integrations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and configure IBM DataPower Gateway appliances for API, SOAP, REST, and MQ-based integrations.
  • Implement security protocols including SSL/TLS, OAuth, SAML, and mutual authentication.
  • Develop and maintain multi-protocol gateways (MPGs), XML firewalls, and web service proxies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to service mediation, routing, and transformation.
  • Create and maintain XSLT, XPath, and XQuery scripts for data transformation.
  • Integrate DataPower with external systems (LDAP, SIEM, backend services).
  • Manage deployment artifacts across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Perform performance tuning, health checks, and capacity planning for DataPower appliances.
  • Collaborate with API developers, DevOps, and security teams to ensure consistent policies and architecture.
  • Maintain documentation of configurations, deployments, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in audits and compliance reviews related to secure data exchange.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of total career experience.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with IBM DataPower Gateway appliances (physical or virtual).
  • Strong understanding of web services technologies (SOAP, REST, WSDL, JSON, XML).
  • Experience with security implementations (OAuth 2.0, TLS, JWT, API keys, LDAP).
  • Proficiency with XSLT, XPATH, XQuery, and DataPower-specific scripting.
  • Solid understanding of network protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, TCP/IP, DNS).
  • Familiarity with IBM API Connect, IBM MQ, and other IBM Integration tools is a plus.
  • Experience working in DevOps environments with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • IBM Certified Developer DataPower Gateway or similar certification.
  • Experience in hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or IBM Cloud).
  • Knowledge of containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift).
  • Experience integrating with enterprise IAM, monitoring, or logging systems (e.g., Splunk, QRadar).
