JOB PURPOSE:
The SQL Server Database Administrator is responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of SQL Server databases. This role ensures the security, availability, and performance of databases that support critical business operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, configure, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server databases (2016, 2019, 2022).
- Monitor and optimize system performance through query tuning and index management.
- Implement robust backup and recovery strategies, ensuring high data availability.
- Administer and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions (Always On Availability Groups, Clustering, Log Shipping, Database Mirroring).
- Perform regular maintenance tasks (index rebuilds, statistics updates, consistency checks).
- Manage user access control, database permissions, encryption, and auditing.
- Automate routine tasks using T-SQL, SQL Server Agent, and PowerShell.
- Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks and system outages.
- Assist developers with query optimization, stored procedures, and schema design.
- Maintain documentation of database configurations, processes, and compliance requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in an enterprise environment.
- Expertise in T-SQL scripting, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), and SQL Profiler.
- In-depth understanding of SQL Server architecture, indexing strategies, and execution plans.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server Always On, clustering, and replication.
- Strong knowledge of backup/recovery processes, and database integrity tools (DBCC).
- Familiarity with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Understanding of security best practices and compliance (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Microsoft certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MCSA: SQL Server).
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS for SQL Server).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, source control (Git), and CI/CD for databases.
- Experience with third-party monitoring tools like Redgate, Idera, or SolarWinds DPA.
