ROLE OVERVIEW
The role holder is responsible for effective conduct of testing, maintenance and repair works for ensuring full functionality of the telecom equipment utilized within the Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) telecommunication system. The role holder is also responsible for ensuring a secure AMI telecommunication network across the State of Qatar and catering to the high priority operational needs of SMOC.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads in diagnosing and correcting problems related to the Smart Metering Solution field equipment and runs daily health checks i.e. Electricity meters, Water gateways, DCUs, Communication equipment involved in Data Center -to-Smart Metering.
- Responsible for proactive monitoring and repair of the last mile communication including smart meters communications, data concentrators, GPRS, 3G/4G, NB -IoT, and RF at Last mile.
- Follow up and coordinate with metering vendors and communication service providers for fault rectification, SLA breach and new technology evaluation.
- NMS application monitoring and configuration, including change of device parameter and configuration.
- Ensures effective functioning of the telecom media utilized throughout the telecom network.
- Forecast corrective and preventive maintenance of all telecom media including Wired and Wireless equipment to maintain the quality, reliability, and full functionality of the telecom equipment based on SMOC reports.
- Responds to emergencies basis information provided by the SMOC on emergency action required basis customer queries or complaints.
- Prepare and coordinates annual schedules for conducting routine maintenance and repair of the telecom equipment.
- Prepares monthly progress reports based on the work activities conducted, customer complaints resolved and maintains details about the equipment repaired from SMOC.
- Works in cooperation with Quality Assurance and Continual Improvement section on securing and maintaining the ISO / Risk Management / ISMS certification.
- Carries -out and ensures the compliance of all activities within the Department in -line with Clients health and safety regulations.
- Utilizes knowledge of Wireless communication, cellular communication, Technology, MBUS technology, Radio Frequency Technology and Networking for effective conduct of work activities and configuration of communication equipment where and as needed.
- Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time.
- This position may require traveling between venues/depots during normal and or outside office hours for the site – work such as configurations, installations, inspections, and any site related works.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 4 -year bachelors degree in electrical engineering or Telecommunication Engineering or related field or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years experience in technical field as telecom/electrical engineer supervising installation, commissioning, configuration, testing, & maintenances of telecommunication equipment.
- Experience with IoT wireless Technologies such as LPWANS, Wi -fi, Event Stream Processing, Cellular (4G/5G), Zigbee, M-Bus and other mesh protocols etc.
- Must have experience in GCC utilities.
- Most recent experience (at least 3 years) in installation, configuration, and O&M of different types of smart meters communication, data concentrator/gateways and IoT devices for both electricity and especially water.
- Hands -on experience with Head-End Systems and Meter Data Management application as advance d level user. Experience with Siemens EnergyIP and Siemens SIE UDIS is preferred.
- Experienced with SIM Based smart meter communication, establishing service level KPI, field installation and troubleshooting processes/procedures.
- Strong command in English (writing and speaking) are essential. Good command in Arabic (writing and speaking) is a plus.
