Reports to: Hospitality Supervisor / Outlet Manager / Head Chef
Position Overview:
The Barista 1 is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of hot and cold beverages, primarily specialty coffee drinks, under the clients service standards. This role combines precision, speed, and customer engagement to deliver a consistent and elevated beverage experience.

Prepare espresso-based drinks (e.g., lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos) and other hot or iced beverages per standard recipes.

Operate coffee machines, grinders, blenders, and brewing equipment efficiently and safely.

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the barista station, machines, utensils, and customer areas.

Restock milk, beans, syrups, cups, and consumables to ensure service continuity.

Greet customers, take orders, make recommendations, and process payments using POS systems.

Maintain knowledge of seasonal offerings, drink modifications, and client-specific menu requirements.

Ensure consistent quality, temperature, and presentation of all beverages.

Handle food service for light snacks or pastries if part of the offering.

Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisors of low stock or equipment issues.

Follow health, hygiene, and food safety regulations, including allergen handling and COVID-19 protocols.

Engage positively with customers, managing feedback or complaints professionally.

Participate in opening/closing duties, deep cleaning schedules, and safety briefings.

Assist in training new staff or temporary team members when requested.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certifications:

KCSE certificate minimum.

Valid Food Handlers Certificate required.

Barista training certification or beverage service training is a strong advantage.
Experience:

1+ year of barista or café experience in a restaurant, hotel, or catering setting.

Familiarity with espresso machines and manual brewing methods (e.g., pour-over, French press) is ideal.
Skills:

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Knowledge of coffee types, milk steaming, and latte art is an advantage.

Ability to work efficiently under pressure in high-volume environments.

Basic math skills for handling money and calculating measurements.

Attention to detail, hygiene, and speed.
Other Requirements:

Willing to work rotating shifts, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.

Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 15kg during restocking.

Must uphold high personal grooming, punctuality, and professional demeanor.
