About the job Nurse
The Nurse 1 operates under the supervision of the Site Medical Officer and supports the health and safety of employees on construction sites and camps. The role involves providing first-line medical care, administering treatment, conducting health assessments, promoting wellness, and ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. This position is vital in minimizing health-related disruptions on-site and maintaining a fit, safe, and responsive workforce.

Provide first aid, basic trauma care, and primary nursing services for site workers and staff.

Respond promptly to medical emergencies, accidents, or injuries and coordinate patient evacuation if needed.

Maintain medical logs and incident reports, ensuring strict confidentiality and compliance with medical ethics.

Monitor health conditions of workers through periodic checks, vital signs monitoring, and health risk screenings.

Administer prescribed medication and monitor response to treatment.

Conduct health and hygiene education sessions on topics such as malaria prevention, hydration, fatigue, PPE use, and hygiene.

Ensure medical supplies and equipment are stocked, well-maintained, and inventoried regularly.

Support occupational health programs including TB screening, COVID-19 protocols, vaccinations, and chronic illness management.

Liaise with nearby clinics or hospitals for advanced care and referrals.

Assist in developing and implementing site-specific health policies and emergency response plans.

Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and audits as a health representative.

Support compliance with NEMA, DOSHS, and Ministry of Health site health requirements.

Provide documentation to support medical insurance claims or worker compensation when applicable.

Conduct follow-ups on injured or recovering workers to ensure timely return-to-work readiness.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certifications:

Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.

Must be licensed and registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Certification in First Aid, BLS (Basic Life Support), and preferably ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).

Training in Occupational Health & Safety or Remote Site Nursing is a strong advantage.
Experience:

2+ years of clinical nursing experience, preferably with exposure to emergency care or occupational health.

Experience in a remote site, construction site, camp clinic, or mobile health setup is highly desirable.

Familiarity with workplace health risks such as dehydration, heat stress, falls, lacerations, and machinery-related injuries.
Skills:

Excellent clinical assessment and triage skills.

Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to deal with a diverse workforce.

Familiar with basic medical software or digital record keeping.

Ability to stay calm under pressure and respond quickly in emergencies.

Team-oriented, with high standards of ethical and confidential conduct.
Other Requirements:

Willing to work long shifts, night duty, or be on-call depending on site activity.

Must be physically fit and able to move swiftly in emergencies.

Willing to relocate to remote or temporary site camps if necessary.

Fluent in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of local dialects is an asset.
