Reports to: Site Foreman / Construction Supervisor Position Overview: The Carpenter 1 works under the supervision of the Site Foreman and is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, formwork, and other materials. This role is critical in executing structural framing, interior fit-outs, and formwork preparation for concrete works, ensuring precision, safety, and alignment with project specifications.

Interpret construction drawings, sketches, and project plans to determine specifications and layout.
Measure, cut, and assemble timber and other materials for construction or formwork.
Install floorings, doors, windows, staircases, cabinetry, partitions, and ceiling frameworks.
Build and strip formwork for concrete foundations, beams, columns, and slabs.
Ensure that framing, bracing, and structural supports meet safety and design standards.
Repair and maintain wooden structures and frameworks as required.
Operate woodworking machines, power tools, and hand tools safely and efficiently.
Check vertical and horizontal alignment using levels, plumb bobs, and laser equipment.
Perform layout tasks using measuring tapes, squares, and chalk lines.
Follow all site safety procedures and use proper PPE at all times.
Coordinate with other trades (e.g., masons, steel fixers, plumbers) to avoid work conflicts.
Maintain clean and organized work areas and properly store tools and materials.
Keep accurate records of materials used, time spent, and progress made.
Perform other carpentry or general labor duties as directed by the foreman.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certifications:
KCSE certificate preferred; technical training in carpentry or joinery is a strong advantage.
Valid national ID or drivers license required.
NCA registration or trade test certificate preferred.
Health and Safety certification (e.g., OSHA, NCA) is beneficial.
Experience:
2+ years of experience as a carpenter in construction, fit-outs, or civil works.
Proven experience with timber formwork, framing, or finish carpentry.
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
Skilled in the use of saws, drills, chisels, nail guns, hammers, and levels.
Excellent measuring, cutting, and assembly skills with high attention to detail.
Knowledge of joinery techniques and wood properties.
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with concrete-related carpentry is an advantage.
Other Requirements:
Must be physically fit, capable of lifting up to 30kg and working at heights or in confined spaces.
Willing to work in variable site conditions heat, dust, noise, and rain.
Willingness to work overtime or weekends based on project demands.
Must adhere to strict safety and quality assurance protocols.
