Role Objective

The Production Manager will be responsible for planning, managing, and optimizing Amzone’s rigging and manufacturing operations. This role involves end-to-end oversight of production planning, material control, shop floor operations, workforce management, safety protocols, and quality assurance. The ideal candidate will bring a strong engineering background, deep knowledge of rigging products and production processes, and experience in managing skilled technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Planning & Shopfloor Management

  • Develop and execute detailed production schedules, ensuring alignment with daily, weekly, and monthly delivery commitments.
  • Manage and prioritize job orders based on delivery timelines, raw material availability, client urgency, and resource capacity.
  • Supervise all rigging operations, including rope cutting, crimping, socketing, thimbles, chain assemblies, and proof load testing.
  • Monitor daily output, conduct shift planning, and address bottlenecks to ensure consistent flow.

2. Quality Control & Certification

  • Ensure compliance with international lifting and rigging standards (EN, BS, ASME, DNV, etc.).
  • Oversee product inspections and final QC release for all finished goods.
  • Liaise with external third-party inspectors (e.g., Bureau Veritas, TUV) for load testing, visual inspections, and certification when required.
  • Maintain product traceability, test records, calibration logs, and digital documentation of each finished assembly.

3. Resource and Material Management

  • Monitor raw material stock levels including wire ropes, fittings, shackles, slings, synthetic straps, chains, and rigging accessories.
  • Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure just-in-time material availability without overstocking.
  • Maintain production tools and equipment, including hydraulic crimping machines, test benches, socketing ovens, load cells, and cutting tools.
  • Plan preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.

4. Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for cycle time reduction, cost savings, and productivity improvement.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles (5S, visual management, value stream mapping).
  • Introduce process documentation, SOPs, and work instructions for consistency and training.
  • Drive automation initiatives and workshop layout optimization for better space and material flow.

5. Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Enforce EHS regulations on the shop floor. Ensure all rigging operations follow lifting safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety toolbox talks, incident investigations, and compliance audits.
  • Ensure team members use PPE and adhere to operating procedures for hazardous tools and machines.

6. Team Development and People Management

  • Lead a team of riggers, machine operators, welders, helpers, and material handlers.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, skill assessments, and individual development planning.
  • Identify staffing needs and participate in the recruitment of technical staff.
  • Create a culture of discipline, responsibility, and continuous improvement on the shop floor.

7. Reporting and Coordination

  • Prepare and submit production KPIs, efficiency reports, defect reports, and downtime logs to senior management.
  • Coordinate with:
    • Sales & Operations for order status and client priorities
    • Finance for job costing and margin control
    • Logistics for delivery planning and packaging requirements
    • Procurement for material flow
    • HR for labor planning and disciplinary actions

Ideal Candidate Profile

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in rigging and lifting, lean manufacturing, or ISO quality systems are preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8–12 years of experience in production or plant operations, preferably in a rigging, lifting, or heavy fabrication industry.
  • Prior experience in managing rigging or lifting equipment production, with exposure to testing and certification processes.

Technical Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of:
    • Wire ropes and terminations
    • Chain and webbing assemblies
    • Load testing equipment and techniques
    • Crimping, socketing, and splicing
    • Material strength, safety factors, and MBL ratings
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, AutoCAD/technical drawings, and job tracking tools.
