Sales Development Representative (Entry Level)
Job Description:
Jay Staffing Partners is conducting a confidential search for an early-stage technology company seeking an entry-level Sales Development Representative to join its San Francisco team.
This is an opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional who wants to begin a career in technology, sales, and business development while working closely with a small team building products for industrial customers.
You'll help identify prospective customers, develop thoughtful outbound campaigns, and start conversations with organizations that could benefit from the company's technology.
Because the commercial function is still being developed, you'll have an opportunity to help establish the processes, messaging, and systems used to generate new business rather than simply stepping into an existing sales playbook.
What You'll Do
- Research prospective customers and identify organizations that fit the company's target market.
- Build and maintain high-quality prospect and account lists.
- Research individual companies and contacts before conducting outreach.
- Write concise, personalized emails and other outbound communications designed to generate conversations.
- Engage prospective customers through multiple outbound channels.
- Qualify initial interest and coordinate next steps with internal team members.
- Maintain accurate prospecting and activity information within the company's CRM.
- Test different messaging and outreach approaches and use the results to improve future campaigns.
- Work closely with product and technical teams to understand new capabilities and accurately communicate customer value.
- Share recurring questions and feedback from prospective customers with the broader team.
- Help develop repeatable outbound processes as the company's commercial organization grows.
What We're Looking For
This position is designed for someone at the beginning of their professional career. Previous full-time sales experience is not required.
We're looking for candidates who demonstrate:
- A completed or soon-to-be-completed college degree.
- Exceptional written communication skills.
- The ability to write concise, specific, and engaging professional messages.
- Intellectual curiosity and an interest in learning technical products.
- Enough technical aptitude to understand how a sophisticated product works and communicate its value to prospective customers.
- Persistence and resilience when dealing with unanswered outreach or rejection.
- Strong research and organizational skills.
- A willingness to experiment, learn from results, and continuously improve.
- Comfort working in an early-stage environment where processes are still being developed.
- Ability to work fully in person in San Francisco.
Candidates from a wide variety of academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply. A technical degree is helpful but is not required.
Writing Ability
Strong writing is an important component of this position.
Candidates should be prepared to provide examples demonstrating their ability to communicate clearly and persuasively. Examples could include published articles, newsletters, academic or professional writing, personal projects, or other original work.
Writing and communication skills may also be evaluated during the interview process.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional consideration may be given to candidates who have:
- Internship, project, or extracurricular experience within a startup or entrepreneurial environment.
- Familiarity with CRM, prospecting, or sales-engagement platforms.
- Exposure to manufacturing, engineering, robotics, hardware, or other technical industries.
- Built a project, organization, publication, business, or other initiative independently.
- Demonstrated sustained achievement through academics, athletics, extracurricular activities, entrepreneurship, or another demanding pursuit.
- Experience taking ownership of a project without a predefined process.
Who May Thrive Here
This opportunity may be especially attractive to someone who enjoys competition, learning, writing, and building relationships.
You don't need to arrive as an experienced salesperson. More important is your ability to research thoughtfully, communicate exceptionally well, learn a technical product, handle rejection constructively, and remain persistent.
Because you'll be joining an early-stage organization, you should also be excited about helping build systems and processes rather than expecting an established sales organization to provide them.
Compensation
The anticipated base salary is $63,000–$70,000, with additional performance-based earning potential and equity.
Specific incentive compensation and equity details will be discussed with qualified candidates during the recruiting process.
Location & Work Authorization
This position is fully onsite in San Francisco, California.
Candidates should already be located within commuting distance or be able to independently establish themselves in the area. Relocation assistance is not available.
Applicants must have permanent authorization to work in the United States for the employer. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Confidential Search
Additional information about the company, its technology, customers, and growth plans will be provided to qualified candidates during the recruiting process.
