Responsibilities

  • Office Based
    • Responsible for overseeing the management of drilling, completion fluids, and cementing
    • Review and define required standards for service company competence
    • Expert in composition and operating characteristics of various drilling and completion fluid systems, solids control equipment. Strong knowledge of alternative fluids systems, cementing and procedures which might be implemented to improve operational efficiency
    • Review lab capabilities and testing programs. Verify lab equipment is in good working condition, calibrated, and certified as required.
    • Ensure fluid sampling / testing techniques are representative of the fluid in use, fluid properties are correctly analyzed, and that recommended chemical additions to correct any deficiencies are justified.
    • Develop drilling and completion fluids program
    • Active liaison with COP Global Wells Fluids and Cementing SME. Monitor environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to local regulations
    • Advice on rig equipment setup / modification related to fluids and solids control
    • Technical focal person for fluids, solids control, and cementing contract bidding and evaluation.
    • Develop and manage fluids and drilling solids control waste disposal management. Extend similar support for well unloading operation.
    • Identify and implement fluids-related engineering software/simulations
    • Support the development and implementation of wellbore strengthening strategy
    • Forecast future fluid materials requirement to ensure adequate inventory exists
    • Oversee and evaluate fluids and cementing performance, recommend changes to optimize, and carry out post execution evaluation.
  • Rig Based (as required)
    • Provide on-site drilling fluids engineering and supervisory support on rig during well operation.
    • Review and prepare daily operations plans to be reviewed during daily planning meetings with COP, contractor and service personnel.
    • Monitor on-site processes and recommend necessary changes to programs and/or operational practices.
    • Capture all lessons learnt, including digital and photo data to facilitate a continuous improvement culture.
    • Prepare weekly after-action reviews between offshore and onshore personnel.
    • Prepare and review drilling fluids and cementing report section summary at the end of each hole section to be used in the preparation of the final well report.
    • Help ensure operations are compliant with all COP HSE, operating, and organizational policies, standards, and practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering
  • Minimum 15 years of industry experience worked in Drilling and Completions Fluids Engineering, with more than 5 years experience as a Drilling Fluids Advisor.
  • Experienced in various types of water-based, and non-aqueous fluids for drilling and completions with various well conditions not limited to shallow water, deepwater, HPHT, and ERD.
  • Experienced in running and monitoring LMP operations.
  • Experienced in managing solids control equipment and waste disposal (related to drilling & completion fluids)
  • Knowledgeable in cementing fluids technology and applications
  • Previous experience performing cost and performance tracking, cost estimating, and the typical office based and rig-based drilling fluids functions.
  • Valid IWCF and T-Bosiet / HUET certifications.
  • Familiar with laboratory methods and techniques related to drilling fluids
  • Recognized history of contribution to the industry (papers, technical committee, board membership, patents, etc.)
  • Good technical skills in drilling fluids engineering and offshore operations.
  • Self-motivated, positive attitude and works with minimal direction. Strong communications, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Organized and able to handle multiple tasks while responding to critical needs with extended deadlines.
  • Able to perform in a multi-cultural, multi-discipline team environment.
  • Has the appropriate knowledge, skills, and behaviors in accordance with the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Medically fit and meets PETRONAS required offshore medical/safety passport requirements.
