The Opportunity

The firm is seeking a Senior Associate / Counsel to join its Competition, Regulation & Trade team in Melbourne.

This role offers the opportunity to work across both advisory and contentious competition matters, including merger clearances, regulatory investigations, cartel and behavioural matters, as well as high-profile competition and consumer law disputes. You will advise leading domestic and international clients across sectors including technology, energy, infrastructure, financial services and consumer markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on competition, consumer and regulatory matters including merger clearances, investigations and strategic advisory work.
  • Lead and support complex competition and consumer law disputes, including litigation and regulatory enforcement proceedings.
  • Provide strategic advice on regulatory risk, compliance and engagement with regulators.
  • Act for clients in investigations involving alleged anti-competitive conduct, cartel matters and consumer law breaches.
  • Collaborate with partners and cross-border teams on multi-jurisdictional matters.
  • Mentor and support junior lawyers while contributing to the growth of the practice.

About You

  • Admitted to practice in Australia with experience as a Senior Associate or Counsel in competition, consumer or regulatory law, ideally gained at a leading firm or regulator.
  • Strong experience across advisory and/or contentious competition and consumer law matters.
  • Excellent technical, analytical and communication skills with strong commercial judgment.
  • Ability to manage complex matters, build client relationships and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • A collaborative mindset with an interest in mentoring and contributing to business development initiatives.
